SOCIAL WELFARE (MATERNITY ALLOWANCE) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1971.

The Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 3 and 20 of the Social Welfare Act, 1952 (No. 11 of 1952), hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Maternity Allowance) (Amendment) Regulations, 1971.

(2) These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Maternity Allowance) Regulations, 1952 (No. 375 of 1952) may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Maternity Allowance) Regulations, 1952 and 1971.

2. In these Regulations "new penny" means a new penny in the new decimal currency provided for by the Decimal Currency Act, 1969 (No. 23 of 1969).

3. On and from the 15th day of February, 1971 article 7 of the Social Welfare (Maternity Allowance) Regulations, 1952 (No. 375 of 1952) shall be amended by the substitution therefor of the following:—

"7. Where any sum payable by way of maternity allowance would, apart from this article, include a fraction of a new penny, that fraction shall be treated as one new penny."

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of the Regulations is to provide that on and from the 15th February, 1971, any amount payable by way of maternity allowance which includes a fraction of a new penny shall be rounded up to the nearest new penny.
