COUNTY BOROUGH OF LIMERICK (WARDS) REGULATIONS, 1970.

The Minister for Local Government in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 88 of the Electoral Act, 1963 , (No. 19 of 1963) hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1. These Regulations may be cited as the County Borough of Limerick (Wards) Regulations, 1970.

2. These Regulations shall come into force on the 15th day of April, 1971.

3. In these Regulations "the County Borough" means the County Borough of Limerick.

4. The County Borough shall be divided into the wards specified in the Schedule to these Regulations.

5. (1) Each such ward shall consist of the area described in the second column of the Schedule to these Regulations opposite the name of such ward.

(2) In the Schedule to these Regulations—

( a ) a reference to a line drawn along any road, roadway street, pedestrian way, bridge, river or canal shall be construed as a reference to a line drawn along the centre of such road, roadway, street, pedestrian way, bridge, river or canal;

( b ) a reference to the point at which any road, roadway, street, pedestrian way, bridge, river or canal is said to intersect or to join any road, roadway, street, pedestrian way, bridge, river or canal shall be construed as a reference to the point at which a line drawn along the centre of the one would be intersected or joined by a line drawn along the centre of the other.

( c ) a reference to the point at which any road, river or canal intersects or joins a boundary shall be construed as a reference to the point at which a line drawn along the middle of such road, river or canal would intersect or join such boundary.

( d ) the expression "the County Borough boundary" means the boundary of the County Borough of Limerick at the date of these Regulations.

Commencing at the junction of the River Shannon and the Abbey River near Shannon Bridge; thence in a northerly direction along the River Shannon to its junction with the County Borough boundary; thence commencing in a northerly direction and proceeding along the County Borough boundary to its junction with the imaginary north-easterly projection of the canal linking the River Shannon with the Abbey River; thence in a south-westerly direction along the said imaginary projection, the said canal and the Abbey River to its junction with the imaginary north-westerly projection of Clare Street; thence commencing in a northerly direction and proceeding along the Abbey River to the starting point (passing west of Grove Island).

That part of the County Borough situated within a line drawn as follows:—

Commencing at the junction of the imaginary north-westerly projection of Clare-Street and the Abbey River; thence in a north-easterly direction along the Abbey River, the canal linking the River Shannon with the Abbey River and the imaginary north-easterly projection of the said canal to its junction with the County Borough boundary; thence commencing in a southerly direction and proceeding along the County Borough boundary to its intersection by the Dublin road; thence commencing in a westerly direction and proceeding along the Dublin road, Clare Street and its imaginary north-westerly projection to the starting point.

Abbey C

That part of the County Borough situated within a line drawn as follows:—

Commencing at the intersection of the Abbey River by Balls Bridge; thence in a north-easterly direction along the Abbey River to its junction with the imaginary north-westerly projection of Clare Street; thence in a south-easterly direction along the said imaginary projection and Clare Street to its junction with Pennywell; thence in a south-westerly direction along Pennywell to its junction with New Road; thence in a south-westerly direction along New Road to its junction with John Street; thence in a north-westerly direction along John Street, Broad Street and Balls Bridge to the starting point.

That part of the County Borough situated within a line drawn as follows:—

That part of the County Borough situated within a line drawn as follows:—

Commencing at the intersection of Balls Bridge by the Abbey River; thence commencing in a south-easterly direction and proceeding along Balls Bridge, Broad Street, Mungret Street and High Street to its junction with Upper Denmark Street; thence commencing in a north-westerly direction and proceeding along Upper Denmark Street, Denmark Street and Honan's Quay to its junction with Sarsfield Bridge; thence in a north-westerly direction along Sarsfield Bridge to its intersection by the River Shannon; thence in a north-easterly direction along the River Shannon to its junction with the Abbey River near the Custom House; thence in an easterly direction along the Abbey River to the starting point.

Commencing at the junction of Shelbourne Road and the Meelick road; thence in a southerly direction along Shelbourne Road to its junction with Ennis Road; thence in a westerly direction along Ennis Road to its junction with Lansdowne Park; thence commencing in a northerly direction and proceeding along Lansdowne Park, the pedestrian way beside the quarry and the most westerly roadway of the Mayor-stone housing estate to its junction with the Meelick road (passing in an anti-clockwise direction around and excluding the open space at Lansdowne Park); thence in an easterly direction along the Meelick road to the starting point.
