IMPORTATION OF DOGS AND CATS (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1970.

I, NEIL T. BLANEY, Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 3 , 10 and 33 of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (No. 6 of 1966), hereby order as follows:

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Importation of Dogs and Cats (Amendment) Order, 1970.

(2) The Importation of Dogs and Cats Orders, 1929 and 1969, and this Order may be cited together as the Importation of Dogs and Cats Orders, 1929 to 1970.

2. In this Order "the Principal Order" means the Importation of Dogs and Cats Order of 1929 (S. R. & O., No. 4 of 1929).

3. Article 2 (1) and paragraphs (a) and (b) of Article 4 (1) of the Principal Order, as amended by Article 3 of the Importation of Dogs and Cats (Amendment) Order, 1969 ( S.I. No. 249 of 1969 ), are each hereby amended by the substitution of "twelve months" for "eight months".

4. Where, immediately before this Order came into force, a detention and isolation under Article 2 of the Principal Order (as amended) was in progress, the period for which the dog or cat shall be detained and isolated is hereby extended by four months.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order extends from eight months to twelve months the statutory minimum period of detention and isolation which imported canine and feline animals must undergo at approved quarantine premises.
