TELEPHONE (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1968.

I, ERSKINE H. CHILDERS, Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 2 of the Telegraph Act, 1885, and with the consent of the Minister for Finance, hereby make the following regulations:—

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Telephone (Amendment) Regulations, 1968.

(2) The Telephone Regulations, 1959 to 1965 and these Regulations may be cited together as the Telephone Regulations, 1959 to 1968.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation in the 1st day of January, 1969.

3. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations.

4. In these Regulations " the Regulations of 1964 " means the Telephone (Amendment) Regulations, 1964 ( S.I. No. 153 of 1964 ).

5. The Telephone Regulations, 1959 ( S.I. No. 118 of 1959 ), shall be amended as follows:—

(a) in Regulation 5 (2) (a), as amended by Regulation 4 (b) of the Regulations of 1964, " fourpence " is hereby substituted for " threepence ";

(b) in Regulation 6—

(i) " at or after 8 a.m. and before 6 p.m." is hereby inserted after " made " in paragraph (1),

(ii) the following paragraph is hereby inserted after paragraph (1),

"(1A) In respect of every trunk call (excluding subscriber dialled trunk calls) made at or after 6 p.m. and before 8 a.m. by a subscriber there shall be charged to the subscriber and paid by him—

(a) where the distance between the group centres of the exchanges connected for the purpose of the call does not exceed fifty miles for each period of three minutes or part of three minutes during which the call continues the charge stated in the First Schedule to these Regulations which is appropriate to the call, or

(b) where the distance between the group centres of the exchanges connected for the purpose of the call exceeds fifty miles—

(i) if the duration of the call does not exceed three minutes, the charge stated in the First Schedule to these Regulations which is appropriate to the call, or

(ii) if the duration of the call exceeds three minutes the charge stated in the First Schedule which is appropriate to the call together with, for each minute or part of a minute in excess of three minutes during which the call continues, a further charge equal to one third of the said charge stated in the said First Schedule which is appropriate to the call.",

(iii) " fourpence halfpenny " is hereby substituted for " one penny halfpenny " in paragraph (2), and

(iv) " sixpence " is hereby substituted for " three pence " in paragraph (3);

(c) the following is hereby substituted for paragraph (1) of Regulation 9—

" (1) There shall be charged and paid for a personal call (in addition to such other charge or charges as may be payable under these Regulations in respect of the call) a personal charge of two shillings.";

(d) in Regulation 12—

(i) " one shilling and sixpence " and " one shilling and fivepence halfpenny " are hereby substituted for " sevenpence " and " sixpence halfpenny " respectively in paragraph (a), and

(ii) " one shilling " is hereby substituted for " fivepence " in paragraph (b);

(e) the following Regulation is hereby inserted after Regulation 17—

" 17A. The Minister may supply particulars of the duration of or charge for a completed trunk call (excluding a subscriber dialled trunk call), or of both such duration and charge, on the request of a subscriber and there shall be charged to the subscriber and paid by him in respect of each call of which such particulars are supplied the sum of one shilling (in addition to such other charge or charges as may be payable under these Regulations in respect of the call).";

(f) the following Table is hereby substituted for the Table (inserted by Regulation 4 (d) of the Regulations of 1964) in the First Schedule:

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The purpose of these regulations is to amend the Telephone Regulations, 1959, and the Telephone (Amendment) Regulations, 1964, to provide for the following alterations in certain charges.

Local Calls made from a non-coinbox exchange line............................

Increase from 3d to 4d.

Internal Trunk Calls :

Reduction of the 9d, 1. 6d and 2. 3d rates to 8d, 1. 4d and 2. 0d respectively. The 1. 4d rate becomes chargeable in periods of 3 minutes.

(a) Calls obtained through operator.......................................

(b) Calls dialled direct by the subscriber...................................

Increase from 3d to 4d in the charge for each period of time allowed, the period of time allowed being increased pro-portionately.

Trunk Calls made from a coinbox, exchange line or public telephone ..............................................

Increase from 5d (7d from a coinbox) to 1.0d (1. 6d).
