PENSIONS (INCREASE) REGULATIONS, 1968.

I, CHARLES J. HAUGHEY, Minister for Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 29 of the Pensions (Increase) Act, 1964 (No. 10 of 1964), hereby make the following regulations:

1. These regulations may be cited as the Pensions (Increase) Regulations, 1968.

2. In these Regulations "the Act of 1964" means the Pensions (Increase) Act, 1964 (No. 10 of 1964).

3. (1) The Pensions (Increase) (No. 2) Regulations, 1966 ( S.I. No. 147 of 1966 ), shall, from the 1st day of August, 1967, have effect as if—

( a ) "the first day of August, 1967,", "22.08%", "28.24%", "61.56%" and "£150" were substituted for "the first day of August, 1965,", "9%", "14½%", "44¼%", and "£137", respectively, in each case in which they occur,

( b ) regulations 5 (1) (b) and 5 (1) (c) did not apply to a pension specified in paragraph (j) or (s) of Part I of the Schedule to the Act of 1964, and

( c ) the following paragraph were added to Part II of the Schedule to the Act of 1964:

"( h ) A child's allowance granted under the Ministerial and Parliamentary Offices Acts, 1938 to 1964."

(2) Notwithstanding paragraph (1) (a) of this Regulation, a pension or allowance specified in paragraphs (f), (g) and (h) of Part II of the Schedule to the Act of 1964 shall be increased by twelve per cent of the amount of the pension or allowance payable or which would, if the pension or allowance had been in course of payment, have been payable immediately prior to the 1st day of August, 1967.

4. A pension which was increased under the Pensions (Increase) Regulations, 1967 ( S.I. No. 139 of 1967 ), shall be further increased by twelve per cent with effect from the 1st day of August, 1967, and these regulations shall not have the effect of giving any other increase on such a pension.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations provide, in general, for an increase of up to 12% as from 1st August, 1967, in public service pensions awarded prior to the ninth round pay increase.
