OIL POLLUTION OF THE SEA ACT, 1956 (APPLICATION OF SECTION 10) REGULATIONS, 1967.

I, ERSKINE H. CHILDERS, Minister for Transport and Power, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 10 of the Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 (No. 25 of 1956), and the Transport, Fuel and Power (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1959 ( S.I. No. 125 of 1959 ), hereby make the following regulations:

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 (Application of Section 10) Regulations, 1967.

(2) These Regulations shall come into operation on the 18th day of May, 1967.

2. Section 10 of the Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 (No. 25 of 1956), shall apply to marine diesel oil, other than those distillates of which more than 50 per cent by volume distills at a temperature not exceeding 340 degrees centigrade when tested by the American Society for Testing Materials Standard Method D.156/59.

3. The Oil Pollution of the Sea Act, 1956 (Application of Section 10) Regulations, 1957 ( S.I. No. 204 of 1957 ), are hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of these Regulations is to adopt a revised definition of marine diesel oil in relation to the prohibition on the discharge of oil at sea.
