INFECTIOUS DISEASES (MAINTENANCE) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1966.

The Minister for Health in exercise of the powers vested in him by section 5 and by subsection (5) of section 44 of the Health Act, 1947 (No. 28 of 1947), hereby makes the following Regulations :—

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Infectious Diseases (Maintenance) (Amendment) Regulations, 1966.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of November, 1966.

3. Article 5 of the Infectious Diseases (Maintenance) Regulations, 1965 ( S.I. No. 175 of 1965 ) is hereby amended by the deletion of sub-article (1) and the substitution therefor of the following :—

" (1) The payment shall be a weekly payment, not exceeding—

(a) the sum specified in Part One of the Schedule hereto which is appropriate to the person, save that in the case of such a person with no means the sum so specified may be increased by 10/-in the case of a person with a dependent wife, husband or other dependant aged 16 years or over and by 5/-in the case of a person without such dependant and

(b) such of the increases specified in Part Two of the said Schedule as are appropriate."

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of these Regulations is to amend the Infectious Diseases (Maintenance) Regulations, 1965, so as to enable the rates of allowance specified in Part One of the Schedule to be increased by 5/-per week in the case of a person who has no means and by 10/-per week in the case of such a person with an adult dependant.

The infectious diseases for which maintenance allowances are payable are tuberculosis, acute anterior poliomyelitis, typhoid, diphtheria, paratyphoid A, paratyphoid B, typhus fever, dysentery, salmonella infection, scarlet fever and streptococcal sore throat.
