IMPOSITION OF DUTIES (IRON AND STEEL PRODUCTS) ORDER, 1966.

I, JOHN LYNCH, Minister for Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the Imposition of Duties Act, 1957 (No. 7 of 1957), and section 22 of the Finance Act, 1962 (No. 15 of 1962), hereby, with the consent of the Minister for Industry and Commerce, order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the Imposition of Duties (Iron and Steel Products) Order, 1966.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of July, 1966.

3. In this Order " the Principal Order " means the Imposition of Duties (No. 159) (Customs Duties and Form of Customs Tariff) Order, 1966 ( S.I. No. 132 of 1966 ).

4.—(1) The duties of customs imposed by paragraph 5 of and mentioned in the Schedule to the Principal Order at tariff heading numbers 73.10 (A) (1) (b), 73.10 (A) (2) (b), 73.10 (A) (3) (a) (ii), 73.11 (B) (2) (b) (inserted by this Order), 73.11 (B) (3) (a) (iii) (inserted by this Order), 73.11 (B) (4) (a) (ii) and 73.13 (B) (1) (b) shall not be charged or levied.

(2) This paragraph shall cease to have effect on the 1st day of January, 1967.

5. The Principal Order is hereby amended by—

(i) the deletion of the matter in the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh columns of the Schedule at tariff heading number 73.11 (B) (2),

(ii) the substitution for the matter in the first column of the Schedule at tariff heading number 73.11 (B) (2) of the following :

" H, I, T and U sections of which the greatest cross-sectional dimension does not exceed 10 inches :

(a) H and I sections of which the height (length of web) exceeds the width (length of flanges) by more than ¾ inch and the greatest cross-sectional dimension does not exceed 7¼ inches ;

U sections of which the greatest cross-sectional dimension does not exceed 7 inches ;

(b) Other "

(iii) the insertion in the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh columns, respectively, of the Schedule at tariff heading numbers 73.11 (B) (2) (a) and 73.11 (B) (2) (b) (inserted by this Order) of " (a)",

" 30% or £24 per ton x ",		" 30% or £24 per ton x ",	" 20% or £16 per ton x ",
" 18% or £14.8s. per ton x "	and	" 16% or £12.16s. per ton x ",

(iv) the deletion of the matter in the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh columns of the Schedule at tariff heading number 73.11 (B) (3) (a),

(v) the substitution for the matter in the first column of the Schedule at tariff heading number 73.11 (B) (3) of the following :

" Angles :

(a) Of which the sum of the widths of the limbs (measured externally) is not less than 1½ inches and not greater than 12 inches :

(i) Equal angles of which the sum of the widths of the limbs (measured externally) is not greater than 8 inches

(ii) Unequal angles of which the sum of the widths of the limbs (measured externally) is not greater than 6½ inches

(iii) Other

(b) Other ", and

(vi) the insertion in the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh columns, respectively, of the Schedule at tariff heading numbers 73.11 (B) (3) (a) (i), 73.11 (B) (3) (a) (ii) and 73.11 (B) (3) (a) (iii) (inserted by this Order) of " (a) ",

" 30% or £24 per ton x ",		" 30% or £24 per ton x ",	" 20% or £16 per ton x ",

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order suspends the operation of the duties on certain iron or steel bars, rods, angles, shapes, sections, sheets and plates, during the six months ending 31st December, 1966.
