SECONDARY TEACHERS' SUPERANNUATION (AMENDMENT) SCHEME, 1966.

I, SEOIRSE Ó COLLA, Minister for Education, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by the Teachers' Superannuation Act, 1928 (No. 32 of 1928), and with the consent of the Minister for Finance, hereby make the following Scheme :

1. This Scheme may be cited as the Secondary Teachers' Superannuation (Amendment) Scheme, 1966, and the Secondary Teachers' Superannuation Schemes, 1929 to 1963, and this Scheme may be cited together as the Secondary Teachers' Superannuation Schemes, 1929 to 1966.

2. This Scheme shall come into force immediately upon its being confirmed by each House of the Oireachtas.

3. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Scheme.

4.—(1) Service to which this Scheme applies may, for the purpose of the Secondary Teachers' Superannuation Scheme, 1929 ( S. R. & O. No. 19 of 1929 ), as amended by subsequent schemes, be reckoned—

(a) as approved teaching service,

and

(b) as contributing service.

(2) Service to which this Scheme applies may, in the case of a person to whom Part II of the Secondary Teachers' Superannuation (Amendment) Scheme, 1951 ( S.I. No. 48 of 1951 ), applies, be reckoned as gratuity service for the purposes of the latter scheme.

5. This Scheme applies to service which is—

(a) service as General Secretary of the Association of Secondary Teachers, Ireland—

(i) given from the 1st day of August, 1952, to the 31st day of July, 1957, and

(ii) in respect of which contributions are paid at the rate. of fifteen per cent. per annum of the standard salary (which expression means, in the case of a person who had given service as a secondary teacher before the said 1st day of August, 1952, the standard salary calculated for each school year within the period specified in the foregoing subparagraph at the point on the incrementalsalary scale for secondary teachers which the person had reached prior to rendering service as General Secretary of the said association) of the teacher, together with compound interest at the rate of five per cent. per annum of the said percentage of the standard salary in respect of the period from the end of the school year in respect of which the contribution is payable to the date of payment thereof, and

(b) service as a wholetime member of the professorial staff of a training college for national teachers in respect of which a contribution is paid out of the Training College Fund pursuant to the Pension Scheme for Training College Staffs, 1930 as amended.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This amending scheme provides that service given as general secretary of the Association of Secondary Teachers, Ireland, during the period 1st August, 1952 to 31st July, 1957, and also that service given as a member of the professorial staff of a training college for National teachers may be regarded as pensionable service for the purposes of the Secondary Teachers' Superannuation Scheme.
