IMPOSITION OF DUTIES (NO. 153) (MAN-MADE FIBRES) ORDER, 1966.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 1 of the Imposition of Duties Act, 1957 (No. 7 of 1957), and section 22 of the Finance Act, 1962 (No. 15 of 1962), hereby order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the Imposition of Duties (No. 153) (Man-made Fibres) Order, 1966.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of March, 1966.

3. In this Order "the Principal Order" means the Imposition of Duties (No. 128) (Customs Duties and Form of Customs Tariff) Order, 1962 ( S.I. No. 163 of 1962 ).

4. The duties of customs imposed by paragraph 5 of and mentioned at tariff heading numbers 50.09 (C) (2) (a), 50.10 (C) (2) (a), 51.04 (C) (1), 53.12. (B) (1), 53.13 (B) (1), 54.05 (C) (2), 55.09 (D) (1), 56.07 (D) (1), 59.11 (C) (2) (a) and 59.12 (E) (2) (a) in the Schedule to the Principal Order are hereby varied by—

(a) the deletion of the matter in the second, third, fourth and fifth columns of that Schedule at those tariff heading numbers,

(b) the substitution for the matter in the first column of that Schedule at tariff heading numbers 50.09 (C) (2) (a) and 50.10 (C) (2) (a) of the following—

" Not less than 30 centimetres in width, the following :

(i) Containing wool or fine animal hair and not less than 4½, ounces in weight per square yard ;

(ii) Other, the following :

Containing man-made fibres and exceeding 8 ounces in weight per square yard (other than ticken)

Containing man-made fibres, not less than 4½ ounces nor more than 8 ounces in weight per square yard and suitable for use in the manufacture of women's dresses or women's or men's suits (other than as linings) ",

(c) the substitution for the matter in the first column of that Schedule at tariff heading numbers 51.04 (C) (1) and 56.07 (D) (1) of the following :

" Not less than 30 centimetres in width, the following :

(a) Containing wool or fine animal hair and not less than 4½ ounces in weight per square yard ;

(b) Other, the following :

Exceeding 8 ounces in weight per square yard (other than ticken) ;

Not less than 4½ ounces nor more than 8 ounces in weight per square yard and suitable for use in the manufacture of women's dresses or women's or men's suits (other than as linings) ",

(d) the substitution for the matter in the first column of that Schedule at tariff heading numbers 53.12 (B) (1) and 53.13 (B) (1) of the following :

" Not less than 30 centimetres in width, the following :

(a) Containing wool or fine animal hair and not less than 4½ ounces in weight per square yard ;

(b) Other, the following :

Containing man-made fibres and exceeding 8 ounces in weight per square yard (other than ticken) ",

(e) the substitution for the matter in the first column in that Schedule at tariff heading number 54.05 (C) (2) of the following :

" Not less than 30 centimetres in width, the following :

(a) Containing wool or fine animal hair and not less than 4½ ounces in weight per square yard;

(b) Other, the following :

Containing man-made fibres and exceeding 8 ounces in weight per square yard (other than ticken) ;

Containing man-made fibres, not less than 4½ ounces nor more than 8 ounces in weight per square yard and suitable for use in the manufacture of women's dresses or women's or men's suits (other than as linings) ",

(f) the substitution for the matter in the first column of that Schedule at tariff heading number 55.09 (D) (1) of the following :

" Not less than 30 centimetres in width, the following :

(a) Containing wool or fine animal hair and not less than 4½ ounces in weight per square yard ;

(b) Other, the following :

Containing man-made fibres and exceeding 8 ounces in weight per square yard (other than ticken) ;

Containing man-made fibres, not less than 4½ ounces nor more than 8 ounces in weight per square yard and suitable for use in the manufacture of women's dresses or women's or men's suits (other than as linings) ",

(g) the substitution for the matter in the first column of that Schedule at tariff heading numbers 59.11 (C) (2) (a) an 59.12 (E) (2) (a) of the following :

" Woven, not less than 30 centimetres in width, the following :

(i) Containing wool or fine animal hair and not less than 4½ ounces in weight per square yard ;

(ii) Other, the following :

Containing man-made fibres and exceeding 8 ounces in weight per square yard (other than ticken) ",

(h) the insertion in the second, third, fourth and fifth columns of that Schedule at tariff heading numbers 50.09 (C) (2) (a) (i), 50.10 (C) (2) (a) (i), 51.04 (C) (1) (a), 53.12 (B) (1) (a), 53.13 (B) (1) (a), 54.05 (C) (2) (a), 55.09 (D) (1) (a), 56.07 (D) (1) (a), 59.11 (C) (2) (a) (i) and 59.12 (E) (2) (a) (i) (inserted by this Order) of

(i) the insertion in the second, third, fourth and fifth columns of that Schedule at tariff heading numbers 50.09 (C) (2) (a) (ii), 50.10 (C) (2) (a) (ii), 51.04 (C) (1) (b) , 53.12 (B) (1) (b), 53.13 (B) (1) (b), 54.05 (C) (2) (b), 55.09 (D) (1) (b), 56.07 (D) (1) (b), 59.11 (C) (2) (a) (ii) and 59.12 (E) (2) (a) (ii) (inserted by this Order) of

(j) the insertion in that Schedule after those tariff heading numbers of the following :

" ^* Where alternative rates are shown, the rate applicable is whichever is the greater.".

5. The duties of customs imposed by paragraph 5 of and mentioned at tariff heading number 58.04 (B) (1) (a) (i) in the Schedule to the Principal Order are hereby varied by—

(a) the substitution for the matter in the first column of the Schedule at that tariff heading number of the following :

" Containing wool, fine animal hair or man-made fibres

(I) Containing wool or fine animal hair

(II) Other,"

(b) the insertion in the second, third, fourth and fifth columns of that Schedule at tariff heading number 58.04 (B) (1) (a) (i) (I) (inserted by this Order) of

(c) the insertion in the second, third, fourth and fifth columns of that Schedule at tariff heading number 58.04 (B) (1) (a) (i) (II) (inserted by this Order) of

6. The duties of customs imposed by paragraph 5 of and mentioned at tariff heading numbers 59.07 (C) (2) (a) and 59.09 (B) (2) (a) in the Schedule to the Principal Order are hereby varied by the substitution for the matter in the third, fourth and fifth columns of that Schedule at those tariff heading numbers of

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order provides for the reduction of the minimum specific rates of customs duty applicable to piece goods of man-made fibres not containing wool or fine animal hair to 9/-per square yard (full) and 6/-per square yard (U.K. and Canada).
