ROAD VEHICLES (REGISTRATION AND LICENSING) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1966.

The Minister for Local Government in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 1 of the Finance (Excise Duties) (Vehicles) Act, 1952 (No. 24 of 1952) hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) (Amendment) Regulations, 1966.

(2) These Regulations and the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations, 1958 to 1962 shall be construed as one and may be cited together as the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations, 1958 to 1966.

(3) These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of March, 1966.

2. (1) The Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations, 1958 ( S.I. No. 13 of 1958 ) shall be amended by the substitution for article 26 of the following article :—

" 26. For the purposes of section 1 of the Act of 1952, the periods of a year less than a year for which a licence may be taken out in respect of a vehicle (not being a tramcar or a vehicle on which a duty of three pounds or less is chargeable) shall be such as are hereinafter specified and the duties payable in respect of licences for such periods shall be at the rates hereinafter specified:—

(a) A licence may be taken out for a period of three months ending on the last day of March, June, September or December on payment of eleven fortieths of the full annual rate of duty (any fraction of a shilling in the amount so calculated being treated as a shilling if it exceeds sixpence and otherwise being disregarded).

(b) A licence (not being a licence in respect of a vehicle chargeable with duty under paragraph 1 of Part I of the Schedule to the Act of 1952) may be taken out for a period of two months or one month expiring on the last day of March, June, September or December and the duty payable on a licence taken out for a period of two months shall be eleven sixtieths of the full annual rate of duty and the duty payable on a licence taken out for a period of one month shall be eleven one hundred and twentieths of the full annual rate of duty (any fraction of a shilling in the amounts so calculated being treated as a shilling if it exceeds sixpence and otherwise being disregarded)."

(2) The Fourth Schedule to the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations, 1958 is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations amend the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations, 1958 ( S.I. No. 13 of 1958 ) so as to provide that licences under section I of the Finance (Excise Duties) Vehicles Act, 1952 to expire on the last day of March, June, September or December may be taken out for three months on payment of 1¼0ths of the annual rate of duty, for two months on payment of 11/60ths of the annual rate of duty and for one month on payment of 11/120ths of the annual rate of duty. No other part-yearly licences may be taken out.
