FISHING NETS (REGULATION OF MESH) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1965.

I, CHARLES J. HAUGHEY, Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections 226 and 230 of the Fisheries (Consolidation) Act, 1959 (No. 14 of 1959), as adapted by the Agriculture (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1965 ( S.I. No. 146 of 1965 ), and the Fisheries (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1965 ( S.I. No. 83 of 1965 ), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Fishing Nets (Regulation of Mesh) (Amendment) Order, 1965.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 1st day of January, 1966.

3. In this Order "Principal Order" means the Fishing Nets (Regulation of Mesh) Order, 1965 ( S.I. No. 16 of 1965 ).

4. Paragraph (b) of Article 5 of the Principal Order is hereby amended by the deletion of the words from "except in the waters" to the end of the Article.

5. Notwithstanding Articles 3 and 5 of the Principal Order (as amended by this Order), it shall be lawful, during the period commencing on the 1st day of January, 1966, and ending on the 31st day of December, 1968, to have on board a sea-fishing boat any net having meshes of such dimensions that when any mesh is stretched diagonally lengthwise of the net a flat gauge 2 millimeters thick and 60 millimetres in width will pass through it provided that the boat is based on and landing its catch in ports in the area in the Irish Sea between the parallels 54°30" and 53° north latitudes and west of the meridian 5°15′ west longitude, and that the net is used solely for the purpose of fishing for whiting in that area.

This Order determines the dimensions for meshes of nets used in sea-fishing for certain types of fish.
