WARSAW CONVENTION (HIGH CONTRACTING PARTIES) ORDER, 1964.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by subsection (2) of section 17 of the Air Navigation and Transport Act, 1936 (No. 40 of 1936), hereby order as follows:—

1. This Order may be cited as the Warsaw Convention (High Contracting Parties) Order, 1964.

2. In this Order "the Warsaw Convention" means the International Convention for the unification of certain rules relating to international carriage by air which was signed at Warsaw on the 12th day of October, 1929, and came into force in respect of the State on the 19th day of December, 1935.

3. It is hereby certified that:—

(a) the states specified in the first column of the First Schedule to this Order are the High Contracting Parties to the Warsaw Convention and each such state is a High Contracting Party in respect of the territories specified in the second column of that Schedule opposite the mention of such state, and

(b) the states specified in the first column of the Second Schedule to this Order have availed themselves of the Additional Protocol to the Warsaw Convention by declaring at the time of accession to the said Convention that paragraph (1) of Article 2 of the said Convention shall not apply to international carriage by air performed directly by them or by any territory under their jurisdiction and each state has so availed itself in respect of the territories specified in the second column of that Schedule opposite the mention of such state.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order certifies who are the High Contracting Parties to the International Convention for the unification of certain rules relating to the international carriage by air, 1929 (the Warsaw Convention). The Convention relates, among other things, to the liability of air carriers in the event of damage to passengers or goods in international carriage.
