IMPOSITION OF DUTIES (No. 134) (WOOD) ORDER, 1963.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 1 of the Imposition of Duties Act, 1957 (No. 7 of 1957), and section 22 of the Finance Act, 1962 (No. 15 of 1962), hereby order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the Imposition of Duties (No. 134) (Wood) Order, 1963.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 4th day of June, 1963.

3. The duty of customs imposed by paragraph 5 of and mentioned at tariff heading number 44.13 in the Schedule to the Imposition of Duties (No. 128) (Customs Duties and Form of Customs Tariff) Order, 1962 ( S.I. No. 163 of 1962 ), is hereby varied by—

(a) the substitution for the matter in the first column of that Schedule at that tariff heading number of the following :

" Wood (including blocks, strips and friezes for parquet or wood block flooring, not assembled), planed, tongued, grooved, rebated, chamfered, V-jointed, centre V-jointed, beaded, centre-beaded or the like, but not further manufactured ", and

(b) the substitution for the matter in the second, third, fourth and fifth columns of that Schedule at that tariff heading number of " (a) ", " 50% ", "50% " and " 331/3% " respectively.

4. The Imposition of Duties (No. 131) (Reduction of Rates of Customs Duties) Order, 1962 ( S.I. No. 214 of 1962 ), shall apply and have effect in relation to goods to which this Order applies as if this Order had come into operation immediately before the 1st day of January, 1963.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order provides for an amendment of the Customs duty of 45% (Full), 30% (U.K. and Canada), ad valorem, on certain wood so as to bring boards and planks of softwood, the minimum thickness of which does not exceed one inch, within its scope.
