IMPOSITION OF DUTIES (No. 133) (MATCHES) ORDER, 1963.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 1 of the Imposition of Duties Act, 1957 (No. 7 of 1957), hereby order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the Imposition of Duties (No. 133) (Matches) Order, 1963.

2. This Order shall come into operation on the 6th day of February, 1963.

3. The duty of customs imposed by paragraph 5 of and mentioned at tariff heading number 36.06 in the Schedule to the Imposition of Duties (No. 128) (Customs Duties and Form of Customs Tariff) Order, 1962 ( S.I. No. 163 of 1962 ), is hereby varied by the substitution in the third, fourth and fifth columns of the Schedule at that tariff heading number of " 15s. 4d.", " £1 10s. 8d.", " 11s. 1d.", " 16s. 7d.", " 16s. 7d", " 3s. 11d.", " £3 1s. 4d.", "£1 2s. 2d.", "£1 13s. 2d.", £1 13s. 2d." and " 7s. 10d." for " 16s. 4d.", "£1 12s. 8d.", " 11s. 10d.", "17s. 9d.", " 17s. 9d.", "4s. 2d.", "£3 5s. 4d.", "£1 3s. 8d.", "£1 15s. 6d.", "£1 15s. 6d." and "8s. 4d.", respectively.

4. The duty of excise imposed by section 12 of and mentioned in Part II of the Second Schedule to the Finance Act, 1956 (No. 22 of 1956), is hereby varied by the substitution in the second column of the said Part of the said Schedule of "13 0", "1 6 0", "9 6", "14 3" and "3 4" for "14 0", "1 8 0", "10 3", "15 5" and "3 7", respectively.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order reduces by 9d. per gross containers the rates of the customs and excise duties on containers of wooden matches each containing more than 20 but not more than 50 matches. The Order provides for corresponding reductions in the other rates of the customs and excise duties on matches. The reduced rates of duty come into operation on the 6th February, 1963.
