SEANAD ELECTORAL (CHARGES OF RETURNING OFFICERS IN UNIVERSITY CONSTITUENCIES) (No. 2) ORDER, 1961.

I, SÉAMAS Ó RIAIN, Minister for Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 15 of the Seanad Electoral (University Members) Act, 1937 (No. 30 of 1937), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Seanad Electoral (Charges of Returning Officers in University Constituencies) (No. 2) Order, 1961.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. The Schedule to the Seanad Electoral (Charges of Returning Officers in University Constituencies) Order, 1961 ( S.I. No. 211 of 1961 ), is hereby amended by—

(a) the substitution of "£45" for "£30" in subparagraph (a) of paragraph (1) of Part A,

(b) the substitution of "£3 5s. 0d." for "£2 15s. 0d." in subparagraph (b) of the said paragraph (1), and

(c) the substitution of "such rate per night" for "the rate of £l 18s. 6d. a night" in Part B and the insertion of "as may be authorised from time to time by the Minister for Finance" at the end of the said Part B.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order increases the fees payable to Returning Officers in University Constituencies for conducting the Election and performing all the duties they are required by law to perform; it also increases the amounts that may be disbursed in respect of clerical and other assistance. The Order, furthermore, alters the basis on which these Returning Officers' claims for subsistence may be met.
