IMPOSITION OF DUTIES (No. 115) (TINNED MEAT AND VEGETABLE SOUPS) ORDER, 1961.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 1 of the Imposition of Duties Act, 1957 (No. 7 of 1957), hereby order as follows:

1. This Order may be cited as the Imposition of Duties (No. 115) (Tinned Meat and Vegetable Soups) Order, 1961.

2. The duty of customs imposed by paragraph 4 of and mentioned at reference number 8 in the Schedule to the Imposition of Duties (No. 104) (Miscellaneous Customs Duties) Order, 1961 ( S.I. No. 77 of 1961 ), shall, as respects articles imported on or after the 24th day of August, 1961, be charged, levied and paid on meat soups which are imported in tins or cans at the rate of eighty-four shillings the hundredweight, in lieu of the rates specified in columns (3) and (4) of that Schedule at that reference number.

3. The duty of customs imposed by the said paragraph 4 and mentioned at reference number 9 in the said Schedule shall, as respects articles imported on or after the 24th day of August, 1961, be charged, levied and paid on vegetable soups which are imported in tins or cans at the rate of eighty-four shillings the hundredweight, in lieu of the rates specified in the said columns at the said reference number 9.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of this Order is to impose a Customs duty of 84/- per cwt. on tinned meat and vegetable soups, in place of the ad valorem duties which have applied to such soups.
