MENTAL HOSPITALS OFFICERS (REGISTRATION IN REGISTER OF NURSES) REGULATIONS, 1960.

The Minister for Health, being the appropriate Minister for the purposes of Part II of the Local Government Act, 1941 (No. 23 of 1941) as respects the offices to which these Regulations relate, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by paragraph (i) of subsection (1) of section 19 and section 13 of the said Act, hereby makes the following Regulations :

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Mental Hospitals Officers (Registration in Register of Nurses) Regulations, 1960.

2. The Mental Hospitals Officers (General Trained Nurses) Order, 1942 (S.R. and O. 1942 No. 509) shall cease to have effect as respects any holder of the office of general trained nurse under a mental hospital authority as defined in section 3 of the Mental Treatment Act, 1945 (No. 19 of 1945), who is appointed to such office after the date of these Regulations.

3. Every holder of the office of general trained nurse (male) and general trained nurse (female) under a mental hospital authority as defined in section 3 of the Mental Treatment Act, 1945 , (No. 19 of 1945), who is appointed to such office after the date of these Regulations, shall cease to hold office at the expiration of three years after his appointment to the office unless before such expiration he has been registered in the Mental Nurses Division of the Register of Nurses kept by An Bórd Altranais.

4. Every holder of the office of trainee psychiatric nurse (male) and trainee psychiatric nurse (female) under a mental hospital authority as defined in section 3 of the Mental Treatment Act, 1945 (No. 19 of 1945) shall cease to hold office at the expiration of four years after his appointment to the office unless before such expiration he has been registered in the Mental Nurses Division of the Register of Nurses kept by An Bórd Altranais.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of these regulations is to oblige trainee psychiatric nurses and general trained nurses in the mental hospital service who are not on appointment registered mental nurses, to acquire such registration within four years of appointment in the case of the former, and within three years of appointment in the case of the latter.
