SOCIAL WELFARE (TREATMENT BENEFIT) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1960.

I, SEÁN MacENTEE, Minister for Social Welfare, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 and subsections (1) and (2) of section 25 of the Social Welfare Act, 1952 (No. 11 of 1952), hereby make the following regulations :—

1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Treatment Benefit) (Amendment) Regulations, 1960.

(2) These Regulations and the Social Welfare (Treatment Benefit) Regulations, 1954 ( S.I. No. 156 of 1954 ) may be cited collectively as the Social Welfare (Treatment Benefit) Regulations, 1954 and 1960.

2. Sub-article (2) of article 10 of the Social Welfare (Treatment Benefit) Regulations, 1954 is hereby amended by the substitution for paragraph (a) of the following paragraph—

" (a) (i) in the case of a claimant aged under twenty-one years that not less than twenty-six employment contributions have been paid in respect of him between the date of his entry into insurance and the relevant date, and

(ii) in the case of a claimant aged twenty-one years or over, that not less than one hundred and fifty-six employment contributions have been paid in respect of him between the date of his entry into insurance and the relevant date, and ".

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations amend the Social Welfare (Treatment Benefit) Regulations, 1954 ( S.I. No. 156 of 1954 ), to provide that, in the case of insured persons under 21 years of age, the number of employment contributions required to be paid from the date of entry into insurance to the date of claim for treatment benefit is reduced from 156 to 26.
