COMMITTEES OF AGRICULTURE (ALLOWANCES TO MEMBERS) RULES, 1959.

I, PATRICK SMITH, Minister for Agriculture, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 of the Agriculture (Amendment) Act, 1948 (No. 24 of 1948), as amended by section 7 of the Agriculture (Amendment) Act, 1958 (No. 17 of 1958), hereby make the following Rules :

1. These Rules may be cited as the Committees of Agriculture (Allowances to Members) Rules, 1959.

2. The amount of an allowance payable under the first sub-paragraph of paragraph (a) of subsection (3) of section 3 of the Agriculture (Amendment) Act, 1948 (No. 24 of 1948), by a committee of agriculture to a member of the committee or an approved subcommittee of such committee shall be—

(a) four shillings and sixpence, in the case of a continuous period of not less than three hours but less than seven hours, and

(b) seven shillings, in the case of a continuous period of not less than seven hours.

3. Where a resolution under clause (ii) of the second subparagraph (inserted by the Agriculture (Amendment) Act, 1958 (No. 17 of 1958) ) of the aforesaid paragraph (a) is in force in relation to a committee of agriculture or an approved subcommittee of such committee of agriculture, the amount of the allowance which the committee shall pay to a member of the committee or subcommittee who—

(a) attended a meeting of the committee or subcommittee at a place less than five miles by any route from his ordinary place of residence, and

(b) was obliged by reason of such attendance to remain away from his home for a continuous period of not less than three hours,

shall be an amount not exceeding thirteen shillings and sixpence.

4. A committee of agriculture shall not pay an allowance under the aforesaid paragraph (a) to any person unless that person has previously furnished to the committee a claim in writing stating—

(a) the date and place of the meeting or meetings attended by him, and

(b) the precise hours at which he left his ordinary place of residence to attend the meeting or meetings and at which he returned to such residence.

5. A person shall not be paid more than one allowance under the aforesaid paragraph (a) in respect of any one period, notwithstanding that being a member of a committee of agriculture and of an approved subcommittee of such committee, he attends meetings of both bodies during that period.

6. The Committees of Agriculture (Allowances to Members) Rules, 1949 ( S.I. No. 13 of 1949 ), are hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Rules prescribe the amount of the allowances payable to members of committees of agriculture in respect of attendance at meetings of the committee or of an approved subcommittee.
