MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS ACT, 1927 (APPLICATION OF SECTION 26) ORDER, 1958.

WHEREAS there is in force in the Dominion of New Zealand legislation—

(a) providing for the registration of medical and surgical practitioners by a public authority, and

(b) requiring for such registration a standard of training and knowledge certified by the Medical Registration Council (hereinafter referred to as the Council) to the Government to be not lower than the standard of training and knowledge for the time being necessary for obtaining the right to be registered under the Medical Practitioners Act, 1927 (No. 25 of 1927), and

(c) providing for the admission of persons registered under that Act to registration under such legislation on terms certified by the Council to the Government to be reasonably equivalent to the terms on which persons registered under such legislation are admitted to registration under that Act :

AND WHEREAS the Council has made application to the Government for an order applying section 26 of that Act to the Dominion of New Zealand :

NOW the Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by subsection (2) of section 26 of the Medical Practitioners Act, 1927 (No. 25 of 1927), hereby order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the Medical Practitioners Act, 1927 (Application of Section 26) Order, 1958.

2. Section 26 of the Medical Practitioners Act, 1927 (No. 25 of 1927), shall apply to the Dominion of New Zealand.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

This Order establishes reciprocity in medical registration with the Dominion of New Zealand.
