S.I. No. 14 of 1958.

ROAD VEHICLES (INDEX MARKS) REGULATIONS, 1958.

The Minister for Local Government in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 12 of the Roads Act, 1920, hereby makes the following Regulations :—

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Road Vehicles (Index Marks) Regulations, 1958 and shall come into operation on the first day of February, 1958.

(2) In these Regulations the expression " licensing authority " has the meaning assigned to it by the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Order, 1958 ( S.I. No. 15 of 1958 ).

(3) The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937) applies to these Regulations.

2. The index mark or marks allotted to any licensing authority for the purpose of sub-article (3) of article 19 of the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations, 1958 ( S.I. No. 13 of 1958 ) shall consist of the combination, or combinations of letters, shown opposite to the name of that licensing authority in the Schedule to these Regulations.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations set out the index marks which each licensing authority may use when issuing identification marks to applicants for licences for motor vehicles. In effect they replace a number of orders (now revoked by the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations, 1958 ( S.I. No. 13 of 1958 )).
