DEPARTMENT OF POSTS AND TELEGRAPHS. POST OFFICE SAVINGS BANK (SAVINGS GIFT TOKENS) REGULATIONS, 1957.

I, NEIL T. BLANEY, Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Sections I and II of the Post Office Savings Bank Act, 1861, and with the consent of the Minister for Finance, hereby make the following Regulations :

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Post Office Savings Bank (Savings Gift Tokens) Regulations, 1957.

(2) These Regulations shall come into operation on the 2nd day of December, 1957.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations.

3.—(1) Subject to paragraph (2) of this Regulation, a Savings Gift Token issued pursuant to rules under sub-section (2) of Section 30 of the Finance Act, 1940 (No. 14 of 1940), may be used for making a deposit in the Post Office Savings Bank of the amount of such Token and if so used, it shall be received as a deposit therein of that amount.

(2) A Savings Gift Token shall not be used for making a deposit or received as a deposit under the foregoing paragraph at any time after the expiration of six months from the date of the issue thereof save with the consent in writing of the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

These Regulations provide for the acceptance of Savings Gift Tokens issued pursuant to rules under sub-section (2) of Section 30 of the Finance Act, 1940 , as deposits in the Post Office Savings Bank.
