EMERGENCY IMPOSITION OF DUTIES (No. 398) (SPECIAL IMPORT LEVIES) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1957.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 1 of the Emergency Imposition of Duties Act, 1932 (No. 16 of 1932), as adapted in consequence of the enactment of the Constitution, hereby order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the Emergency Imposition of Duties (No. 398) (Special Import Levies) (Amendment) Order, 1957.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. The Special Import Levy shall not be charged or levied on any motor car of a value of not less than one thousand three hundred pounds which is imported on or after the 17th day of April, 1957, and to which section 12 of the Finance (Agreement with United Kingdom) Act, 1938 (No. 12 of 1938), applies.

4. The Emergency Imposition of Duties (No. 370) (Special Import Levy) Order, 1956 ( S.I. No. 45 of 1956 ), is hereby amended, as respects articles imported on or after the 17th day of April, 1957, by :

(a) the deletion of the matter contained at reference numbers 12, 13, 16, 25, 41, 49, 54, 56, 60 and 65 in the Schedule,

and

(b) the deletion of " Gramophones and " at reference number 15 in the Schedule.

5. The Emergency Imposition of Duties (No. 383) (Special Import Levies) Order, 1956 ( S.I. No. 210 of 1956 ), is hereby amended, as respects articles imported on or after the 17th day of April, 1957, by the deletion of the matter contained at reference numbers 8, 9, 11, 15, 27, 28, 32, 33, 34 and 35 in the Schedule.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order abolishes the special import levies on the following commodities—radio and television sets and accessories ; radio and other gramophones ; record players ; umbrellas and sunshades ; fire gates, stoves, etc ; weighing machines and weighing scales ; component parts of any of the foregoing articles ; furs ; toilet paper ; imitation parchment ; essential oils ; ice cream powders ; plastic materials ; glue and other adhesives ; gums, etc ; waxes ; spices ; newsprint and other printing paper.
