ROYAL CANAL (LONGFORD) (CESSER OF MAINTENANCE) ORDER, 1956.

WHEREAS the Minister for Industry and Commerce has by Warrant entitled the Royal Canal (Longford) (Abandonment) Warrant, 1954, authorised the abandonment by Córas Iompair Éireann of part of the Royal Canal at Longford more particularly described in the Warrant :

AND WHEREAS notice of the granting of the Warrant has been duly published as required by the Minister :

NOW, I, WILLIAM NORTON, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 45 of the Railway and Canal Traffic Act, 1888, and of every other power enabling me in this behalf, hereby order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the Royal Canal (Longford) (Cesser of Maintenance) Order, 1956.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. Córas Iompair Éireann are hereby released from all liability to maintain that part of the Royal Canal belonging to them which by the Royal Canal (Longford) (Abandonment) Warrant, 1954, they have been authorised to abandon, and from all statutory and other obligations in respect thereof, or of or consequent on the abandonment thereof.

EXPLANATORY NOTE.

The effect of the instrument is to relieve C.I.E. of all liability to maintain the canal harbour and a short section of the Royal Canal at Longford which they have already been authorised to abandon.
