CONTROL OF IMPORTS (AMENDMENT OF QUOTA No. 45 AND REVOCATION OF QUOTAS No. 43 AND 44) ORDER, 1955.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by the Control of Imports Acts, 1934 and 1937, hereby order as follows :

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Control of Imports (Amendment of Quota No. 45 and Revocation of Quotas No. 43 and 44) Order, 1955.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 31st day of October, 1955.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. The Control of Imports (Quota No. 45) Order, 1949 ( S.I. No. 330 of 1949 ), is hereby amended as follows :

(I) by the deletion of clause (iv) of subparagraph (f) of paragraph 4 ;

(II) by the deletion in subparagraph (g) of paragraph 4 of " leather cloth," " Holland blind cloth," and " oilskin, rubberised cloth, fancy woven cloth and cloth containing fancy yarns (other than cloth ordinarily used in the manufacture of shirts or pyjamas) " and the insertion in that subparagraph after " moleskin," of " fancy woven cloth and fancy yarn cloth which are not terry, and which are suitable for use in the manufacture of garments (other than cloths ordinarily used in the manufacture of shirts or pyjamas), or " ;

(III) by the insertion in paragraph 4 of the following subparagraph :

" (h) articles which are shown to the satisfaction of the Revenue Commissioners to be treated fabrics which have been coated, impregnated or otherwise operated upon but excluding any fabric which—

(i) is moquette or plush of a weight exceeding eight ounces but not exceeding twenty-four ounces per square yard, or

(ii) is suitable for use in the manufacture of wearing apparel and which has been impregnated and rendered waterproof otherwise than by the use of rubber, or

(iii) is a cloth ordinarily used in the manufacture of dungarees or similar protective garments, or

(iv) is of the nature of a ticken, tabling, nurse cloth, lining, interlining or a pocketing, or

(v) is of a type ordinarily used in the manufacture of bed sheets and is not coated or covered with rubber or rubber solution on one or both sides, or

(vi) is of the nature of tarpaulin fabric, or

(vii) is of the nature of book muslin, or

(viii) is of the nature of buckram, or

(ix) has been subjected only to a textile finishing process or treatment." ;

(IV) by the deletion in paragraph 1 of Part II of the Schedule of " the Control of Imports (Quota No. 43) Order, 1949, or the Control of Imports (Quota No. 44) Order, 1949,";

(V) by the insertion in paragraph 4 of Part II of the Schedule after " woven piece goods " of " (other than tickens, linings, interlinings, pocketings, terry, tabling, nurse cloth and cloth of a type ordinarily used in the manufacture of dungarees or similar protective garments) " ; and

(VI) by the deletion of paragraph 6 of Part II of the Schedule.

4. The Control of Imports (Quota No. 43) Order, 1949 ( S.I. No. 328 of 1949 ), and the Control of Imports (Quota No. 44) Order, 1949 ( S.I. No. 329 of 1949 ), are hereby revoked.
