RETAIL PRICES (DISPLAY) ORDER, 1955.

I, WILLIAM NORTON, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Article 31 of the Emergency Powers Order, 1939 (S. R. & O. No. 224 of 1939) as amended by the Emergency Powers (No. 173) Order, 1942 (S. R. & O. No. 166 of 1942), (which Orders are continued in force by the. Supplies and Services (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1946 (No. 22 of 1946)), and of every and any other power me in this behalf enabling, hereby order as follows :—

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Retail Prices (Display) Order, 1955.

(2) This Order shall come into force on the 26th day of September, 1955.

2. Every person who carries on in the State the business of selling retail any commodity indicated in the First Schedule shall display in the manner described in the Second Schedule at any premises, vehicle, stall, booth, or other stand where he carries on such business a list stating the retail price of each such commodity.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

COMMODITIES TO WHICH THE ORDER APPLIES.

1. Batch Bread—that is to say, Bread which is not baked in containers and is sold or offered for sale in loaves of which the outside is not all crust.

2. Fresh Whole Milk.

3. Butter.

4. Cheese.

5. Eggs.

6. The following fresh vegetables—

(a) Cabbages,

(b) Turnips, Swede and White,

(c) Carrots,

(d) Parsnips,

(e) Onions,

(f) Potatoes,

(g) Cauliflowers.

7. The following fresh fruits—

(a) Apples,

(b) Oranges,

(c) Pears,

(d) Lemons,

(e) Bananas.

8. Oatmeal, Flake.

9. Oatmeal, Pinhead.

10. Jams.

11. Sugar.

12. The following fresh meats—

(a) Beef (in such portions or cuts as are sold or offered for sale retail),

(b) Mutton (in such portions or cuts as are sold or offered for sale retail),

(c) Pork (in such portions or cuts as are sold or offered for sale retail)

13. The following cured meats—

(a) Beef—

(i) Brisket,

(ii) Tail End,

(b) Bacon (in such portions or cuts as are sold or offered for sale retail)

14. Pig's Head.

15. Sausages.

17. White Pudding.

18. Tomatoes.

19. Condensed Milk, Irish full cream.

20. Fish.

21. Margarine.

22. Lard.

23. Household flour.

24. Dried peas.

25. Sultanas.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

MANNER OF DISPLAY OF PRICE LIST.

1. The List shall show separately for each commodity and in characters of not less than one half-inch in height and of proportionate breadth—

(a) a description of the commodity ;

(b) If the sale is by weight or measure, the net weight or measure, as the case may be, and if the sale is by number the number ; and

(c) the retail price, but where more than one retail price is charged for the same commodity, the maximum and minimum prices shall be shown.

2. The List shall be displayed in or on the premises, vehicle, stall, booth or other stand where the commodities are sold or offered for sale in such a position as to be capable of being easily read by persons frequenting the part of the thoroughfare fronting, and adjacent to such premises, vehicle, stall, booth or other stand.
