VITAL STATISTICS REGULATIONS, 1954.

The Minister for Health, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 2 of the Vital Statistics and Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act, 1952 (No. 8 of 1952), hereby makes the following Regulations :—

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Vital Statistics Regulations, 1954.

2. These Regulations shall come into operation on 1st day of January, 1955.

3. A person who, under the Births and Deaths Registration Acts, 1863 to 1952, gives to a registrar information relating to a birth shall, at the time of registration, furnish to the registrar in writing, on a form made available by the Central Statistics Office, particulars of the following :—

(1) The date and place of birth of the child ;

(2) The sex of the child ;

(3) The name and dwelling place of the father of the child ;

(4) The occupation of the father ;

(5) The date of birth of the mother of the child ;

(6) The dwelling place of the mother of the child before the birth ;

(7) The date of present marriage of the mother of the child ;

(8) The number of previous children of the mother—

(a) born alive and still living ;

(b) born alive but dead at the time the particulars are furnished.

4. A person who, under the Births and Deaths Registration Acts, 1863 to 1952, gives to a registrar information relating to a death shall, at the time of registration, furnish to the registrar in writing, on a form made available by the Central Statistics Office, particulars of the following :—

(1) The date and place of death ;

(2) The name and home address of the deceased person ;

(3) The sex of the deceased person ;

(4) Whether the deceased person was married, widowed or single ;

(5) The age of the deceased person (in hours if under one day, in completed days if under one month, in completed months if under one year, and otherwise in completed years) ;

(6) The occupation of the deceased person or, where the deceased person was a child, the occupation of the parent or guardian of the child ;

(7) If the deceased person was a married or widowed female, the occupation of her husband.

5. A registrar, on receiving a form under these Regulations, shall forthwith verify that it is properly completed, enter on it any other information which he may be required by the Minister for Health to enter, sign it and transmit it to the Director, Central Statistics Office, Dublin.
