STATISTICS (CENSUS OF DISTRIBUTION) ORDER, 1954.

The Taoiseach, in pursuance of the powers conferred by subsection (1) of section 16 of the Statistics Act, 1926 (No. 12 of 1926), and the Statistics Acts, 1926 and 1946 (Transfer of Ministerial Functions) Order, 1949 ( S.I. No. 142 of 1949 ), and of every and any other power him in this behalf enabling, hereby orders as follows :—

1. Statistics in respect of the year 1953 relating to undertakings carrying on a wholesale or retail distribution of goods or services shall be collected in the year 1954 of the several matters set out in Part I of the Schedule hereto.

2. The following are the classes of persons by whom returns are to be made or information is to be given for the purpose of the said statistics, that is to say, every person carrying on a wholesale or retail distribution of goods or services on whom a sufficient requisition under Section 8 (1) of the Statistics Act, 1926 , is made.

3. The forms to be used in the collection of the said statistics shall be the forms indicated in Part II of the Schedule hereto, a set of which, sealed with the Official Seal of the Taoiseach, has been deposited in the Department of the Taoiseach.

4. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

5. This Order may be cited as the Statistics (Census of Distribution) Order, 1954.

SCHEDULE

PART I

The subject matter of this Part relates (save where the context otherwise requires) to the year 1953.

INFORMATION, RETURNS AND PARTICULARS

I.—Particulars of establishment

1. Trading name.

2. Address of establishment.

3. Address of the owner.

4. Particulars of ownership.

5. Number of establishments at which business is carried on.

6. Whether any products are manufactured or repaired.

II—Year of return

The beginning and ending dates of the period covered by the return.

III—Descripton of business

The usual description of the business.

IV—Changes in fixed capital assets

The value of all acquisitions during the year of

(a) New furniture, fittings, machinery and equipment (excluding vehicles).

(b) New vehicles.

(c) New buildings.

V—Persons engaged

Number of persons engaged in the business in the week ended 4th April, 1953, distinguishing separately males and females, for the following categories :—

(a) Proprietors working in the business.

(b) Members of proprietors' family working in the business if paid no definite wage or salary for their work.

(c) Paid employees working in the business, including relatives paid a definite wage or salary.

VI—Wages, salaries and commissions paid

(a) Wages and salaries for week ended 4th April, 1953.

(b) Annual wages and salaries.

VII—Total takings

(A) For undertakings carrying on a wholesale or retail distribution of goods or services, except those specified at (B) and (C) below, the following particulars:—

(a) Sales of goods (including meals and refreshments).

(b) Receipts for services.

(B) For agents and representatives, the following particulars :—

(1) Sales of goods and services showing separately sales of purchased goods and sales on commission for the following categories :—

(a) Retail and wholesale sales of goods.

(b) Receipts for services.

(2) Commission received from principals in Ireland and other sources.

(C) For hotels, guest houses and holiday-camps the following particulars :—

(1) The number of guests and " bed-nights."

(2) Receipts for accommodation and goods and services sold.

VIII—Purchases

The amounts spent in the year on goods for resale.

IX—Stocks on hand for sale

The value of goods on hand for sale :—

(a) at the beginning of the year.

(b) at the end of the year.

Form

Undertakings for which the form is to be used

A

Agents and representatives.

B

Hotels, guest houses and holiday camps.

C

All other undertakings carrying on a wholesale or retail distribution of goods or services.
