STATISTICS (CENSUS OF DISTRIBUTION) ORDER, 1952.

The Taoiseach, in pursuance of the powers conferred by subsection (1) of section 16 of the Statistics Act, 1926 (No. 12 of 1926), and the Statistics Acts, 1926 and 1946 (Transfer of Ministerial Functions) Order, 1949 ( S.I. No. 142 of 1949 ), and of every and any other power him in this behalf enabling, hereby orders as follows :—

1. Statistics in respect of the year 1951 relating to all undertakings carrying on a wholesale or retail distribution of goods or services shall be collected in the year 1952 of the several matters set out in Part I of the Schedule hereto.

2. The following are the classes of persons by whom returns are to be made or information is to be given for the purpose of the said statistics, that is to say, every person carrying on a wholesale or retail distribution of goods or services on whom a sufficient requisition under section 8 (1) of the Statistics Act, 1926 , is made.

3. The forms to be used in the collection of the said statistics shall be the forms indicated in Part II of the Schedule hereto, a set of which, sealed with the Official Seal of the Taoiseach, has been deposited in the Department of the Taoiseach.

4. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937) applies to this Order.

5. This Order may be cited as the Statistics (Census of Distribution) Order, 1952.

SCHEDULE.

PART I.

The subject matter of this Part relates (save where the context otherwise requires) to the year 1951.

INFORMATION, RETURNS AND PARTICULARS.

I.—Particulars of Establishment.

1. Trading name.

2. Address.

3. Owner's name.

4. Number of establishments at which business is carried on.

5. Particulars of ownership—whether owned by a limited company, etc.

II.—Year of Return.

The beginning and ending dates of the period covered by the return.

III.—Description of Business.

The usual description of the business.

IV.—Persons Engaged.

Number of persons engaged in the business in the week ended 7th April, 1951, distinguishing separately males and females and those engaged full-time and those engaged part-time, for the following categories :—

(a) Proprietors working in the business.

(b) Members of proprietors' family working in the business if paid no definite wage or salary for their work.

(c) Paid employees working in the business, including relatives paid a definite wage or salary.

V.—Wages, Salaries and Commissions Paid.

(a) Wages and Salaries for week ended 7th April, 1951.

(b) Annual wages and salaries.

VI.—Rent and Rates.

(a) The rent and rates payable for, and the Poor Law Valuation of, land and buildings.

(b) Whether the figures given for VI (a) include rent and rates of a dwelling house attached to the business premises.

VII.—Total Takings.

(A) For all undertakings carrying on a wholesale or retail distribution of goods or services, except those specified at (B), (C), (D) and (E) below, the following particulars :—

(a) Sales of goods.

(b) Sales of meals and refreshments.

(c) Receipts for services.

(B) For Betting Establishments, the following particulars :—

(a) Bets accepted.

(b) Receipts from other bookmakers for winning bets laid off.

(C) For Pawnbrokers, the following particulars :—

(1) Takings from the sale and repair of goods.

(a) Sales at auctions.

(b) Other retail and wholesale sales.

(c) Receipts for repair work.

(2) Pawnbroking Business.

(a) Receipts from pawnbroking.

(b) Unredeemed pledges.

(D) For Manufacturers' Agents, the following particulars :—

(1) Sales of goods and services showing separately sales of purchased goods and sales on commission for the following categories :—

(a) Retail and wholesale sales of goods.

(b) Receipts for services.

(2) Commission received from Irish and other manufacturers.

(E) For Hotels, Guest Houses, Holiday Camps and Hostels, the following particulars :—

(1) The number of Guests and " Bed-nights ".

(2) Receipts for Accommodation and Goods and Services sold.

VIII.—Payments and Purchases.

(A) For all undertakings carrying on a wholesale or retail distribution of goods or services except those specified at (B) and (C) below, particulars of the amount spent in the year on new and second-hand goods for resale.

(B) For Betting Establishments, particulars of payments, showing separately :—

(a) Winnings paid.

(b) Bets laid off.

(c) Excise duty and levies paid on bets.

(C) For Hotels, Guest Houses, Holiday Camps and Hostels, particulars of the amount spent in the year on goods for resale.

IX.—Stocks on Hand for Sale.

For all undertakings carrying on a wholesale or retail distribution of goods or services except Betting Establishments, particulars of the value of goods on hand for sale :—

(a) At the end of 1950.

(b) At the end of 1951.
