CUSTOMS DUTY (KNITTED FABRIC) ORDER, 1951.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by the Supplies and Services (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1946 (No. 22 of 1946), hereby order as follows :

1. This Order may be cited as the Customs Duty (Knitted Fabric) Order, 1951.

2. Article 2 of the Emergency Powers (No. 258) Order, 1943 (S. R. & O. No. 70 of 1943), is hereby revoked as on and from the 6th day of November, 1951, in so far as it suspends the enactment mentioned at reference number 1 in the First Schedule to that Order.

3. The duty of customs imposed by section 7 of the Finance Act, 1936 (No. 31 of 1936), and mentioned at reference number 42 in the First Schedule to that Act (being a duty on knitted fabric, of all descriptions imported in the piece) is, as regards articles imported on or after the 6th day of November, 1951, hereby reduced as follows : in lieu of at the rate appropriate in accordance with the First Schedule to the Finance Act, 1936 , the Emergency Imposition of Duties (No. 153) Order, 1938 ( S. R. & O. No. 218 of 1938 ), or the Emergency Imposition of Duties (No. 177) Order, 1939 ( S. R. & O. No. 65 of 1939 ), as the case may be, the said duty shall be charged, levied and paid (subject to the provisions of section 8 of the Finance Act, 1919), at the rate of an amount equal to thirty-seven and one-half per cent. of the value of the article.
