RETURNING OFFICERS' (BOROUGH AND COUNTY CONSTITUENCIES) CHARGES ORDER, 1951.

The Minister for Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 25 of the Electoral Act, 1923 (No. 12 of 1923), and of every and any other power him in this behalf enabling, hereby orders as follows :—

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Returning Officers' (Borough and County Constituencies) Charges Order, 1951.

(2) The Returning Officers' (Borough and County Constituencies) Charges Orders, 1937 to 1948, the Returning Officers' (Borough and County Constituencies) Bye-Election Charges Order, 1948 ( S.I. No. 416 of 1948 ) and this Order may be cited together as the Returning Officers' (Borough and County Constituencies) Charges Orders, 1937 to 1951.

2. The Returning Officers' (Borough and County Constituencies) Charges Orders, 1937 to 1948, and the Returning Officers' (Borough and County Constituencies) Bye-Election Charges Order, 1948 ( S.I. No. 416 of 1948 ), shall have effect subject to the following changes in Section B of Part II of the Schedule to the Returning Officers' (Borough and County Constituencies) Charges Order, 1937 ( S. R. & O. No. 143 of 1937 ) :

(I) for the reference in subparagraph (a) of paragraph (1) to £3 0s. 0d. there shall be substituted a reference to the following : " £4 0s. 0d. or, where the number of polling stations in a polling place exceeds four, £5 0s. 0d. in the case of such one (and one only) of the presiding officers as may be designated by the returning officer " ;

(II) for the reference in subparagraph (b) of paragraph (1) to £1 10s. 0d. there shall be substituted a reference to £2 0s. 0d. ;

(III) subparagraph (c) of paragraph (1) shall be deleted ;

(IV) for " £3 as provided " in subparagraph (d) of paragraph (1) there shall be substituted " such amount as is appropriate " ;

(V) for the references in paragraph (2) to 3s. 10d., 4s. 4d. and 4s. 10d. there shall be substituted references to 4s. 6d., 5s. 0d. and 5s. 6d., respectively ;

(VI) subparagraph (d) of paragraph (3) shall be construed as containing a proviso specifying that no subsistence allowance shall be payable under the subparagraph to any presiding officer to whom £5 0s. 0d. is payable under paragraph (1).
