SUGAR (PROHIBITION OF IMPORT) ORDER, 1949.

The Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by sections 2 and 5 of the Sugar (Control of Import) Act, 1936 (No. 16 of 1936), as adapted in consequence of the enactment of the Constitution, and of every and any other power them in this behalf enabling, hereby order as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Sugar (Prohibition of Import) Order, 1949.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. The importation into the State in the period from the 1st day of May, 1949, to the 30th day of April, 1950, of sugar not manufactured or produced in the State is hereby prohibited, save under and in accordance with a licence in that behalf granted under the Sugar (Control of Import) Act, 1936 (No. 16 of 1936).

4. The following shall be exempted from the prohibition effected by this Order :

(a) sugar not exceeding fourteen pounds in weight which is shown to the satisfaction of the Revenue Commissioners to be imported for the personal use of the person by whom it is imported or of his household, and

(b) sugar which is shown to the satisfaction of the Revenue Commissioners to be imported as a sample.
