S.I. No. 209/1948 - Seanad (University Members) General Election Order, 1948.


WHEREAS on the 12th day of January, 1948, the President, on the advice of the Taoiseach, dissolved Dáil Éireann :

AND WHEREAS a general election for Seanad Éireann is required by section 8 of Article 18 of the Constitution to take place not later than ninety days after the said dissolution :

NOW, THEREFORE, the Minister for Local Government in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 12 of the Seanad Electoral (University Members) Act, 1937 , by this his Order appoints for the purposes of the said election as follows :—

1. The last day on which the returning officer shall receive nominations in university constituencies shall be the 10th day of February, 1948.

2. The day on which the ballot papers are to be issued and posted to electors in university constituencies shall be the 18th day of February, 1948.

3. The day and hour at which the poll in university constituencies shall be closed shall be the 7th day of April, 1948, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon.

4. This Order may be cited as the Seanad (University Members) General Election Order, 1948.
