CIVIL SERVICE (BONUS) REGULATIONS, 1944.

I, SÉAN T. Ó CEALLAIGH, Minister for Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by subsection (1) of section 9 of the Civil Service Regulation Act, 1924 (No. 5 of 1924), and of the powers conferred on me by subsection (3) of section 2 of the Ministers and Secretaries Act, 1924 (No. 16 of 1924), and of every and any other power me in this behalf enabling, hereby make the following regulations :—

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Civil Service (Bonus) Regulations, 1944.

(2) For the purposes of collective citation the expression " the Civil Service (Stabilisation of Bonus) Regulations, 1940 to 1944 " shall include these Regulations.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to these Regulations.

3. In these Regulations—

the expression " the Principal Regulations " means the Civil Service (Stabilisation of Bonus) Regulations, 1940 ( S. R. & O. No. 177 of 1940 ) ;

the expression " the 1944 Regulations " means the Civil Service (Emergency Bonus) Regulations, 1944 ( S. R. & O. No. 43 of 1944 ).

4. Notwithstanding anything contained in paragraph 4 of the Principal Regulations, the remuneration, in respect of any period beginning on or after the 1st day of January, 1945, of any person to whom the Principal Regulations apply shall be calculated by reference to the index number or numbers which exceeds or exceed by twenty-five points the index number or numbers specified in the said paragraph 4 in respect of such person.

5.—(1) The 1944 Regulations shall, as respects any emergency bonus payable thereunder in respect of any period beginning on or after the 1st day of January, 1945, have effect as if each sum stated in the third column of the Schedule to the 1944 Regulations were increased by one shilling, which said increase is in this paragraph referred to as the addition to the emergency bonus.

(2) For the purposes of the 1944 Regulations, as amended by subparagraph (1) of this paragraph—

(a) the expression " the emergency bonus " where it occurs—

(i) secondly in the fourth column of the Schedule to the 1944 Regulations at reference numbers 3 and 4,

(ii) in the fourth column of the said Schedule at reference number 7, and

(iii) secondly in paragraph 5 of the 1944 Regulations, shall be construed as excluding the addition to the emergency bonus ;

(b) the expression " standard remuneration " where it occurs in—

(i) paragraph 5 of the 1944 Regulations, and

(ii) the Schedule to the 1944 Regulations,

shall be construed as excluding the addition to the emergency bonus and any increase in remuneration payable by virtue of paragraph 4 of these Regulations.
