STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS. 1944. No. 290.

MENTAL NURSES (QUALIFICATION) ORDER, 1944.

WHEREAS the Minister for Local Government and Public Health (in this Order referred to as " the Minister ") is the appropriate Minister for the purposes of Part II of the Local Government Act, 1941 (in this Order referred to as " the Act ") in relation to the offices of Mental Nurse (Male) and Mental Nurse (Female) in a District Mental Hospital or Auxiliary Mental Hospital:

AND WHEREAS by the Local Government and Public Health (Delegation of Ministerial Functions) (No. 2) Order, 1944 (in this Order referred to as " the Delegation Order ") the powers and duties of the Minister under section 21 of the Act, so far as those powers and duties are exercisable or to be performed in respect of an office or employment the duties of which relate solely to the administration of one or more of the Acts or portions of the Acts mentioned in paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Schedule to the Delegation Order or in respect of the holder of any such office or employment were delegated by the Delegation Order to Francis Constantine Ward, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister (in this Order referred to as " the Parliamentary Secretary "):

AND WHEREAS the offices of Mental Nurse (Male) and Mental Nurse (Female) in a District Mental Hospital or Auxiliary Mental Hospital are offices the duties of which relate solely to the administration of one or more of the Acts mentioned in paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Schedule to the Delegation Order:

NOW THEREFORE, the Parliamentary Secretary in exercise of the powers conferred on the Minister by section 21 of the Act and by virtue of the aforesaid delegation hereby orders and declares as follows that is to say:—

1. This Order may be cited as the Mental Nurses (Qualification) Order, 1944.

2. The qualifications set forth in the Schedule hereto shall be qualifications for the offices of Mental Nurse (Male) and Mental Nurse (Female) in a District Mental Hospital or Auxiliary Mental Hospital.

SCHEDULE.

1. Any person holding either of the said offices shall

(a) be of good character;

(b) be free from any defect or disease which would render such person unsuitable to hold the said office, and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

2. Any woman holding the office of Mental Nurse (Female) shall be either unmarried or a widow.

3. (a) Any person holding the office of Mental Nurse (Male) shall be not less than 5 feet 8 inches in height.

(b) Any person holding the office of Mental Nurse (Female) shall be not less than 5 feet 4 inches in height.

4. Any person appointed to either of the said offices shall, on the day which is the last day for receiving applications for such appointment

(a) have attained the age of 22 years;

(b) be registered in the Supplementary (Mental) Part of the Register of Nurses kept by the General Nursing Council.
