STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS. 1944. No. 275.

DRAPERY AND BOOT SHOPS (HOURS OF TRADING ON WEEK-DAYS) (WEXFORD BOROUGH) ORDER, 1944.

I, SEÁN F. LEMASS, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section 25 of the Shops (Hours of Trading) Act, 1938 (No. 3 of 1938), and of every and any other power me in this behalf enabling, and after due compliance with subsection (1) of section 4 of the said Act, hereby order as follows, that is to say :—

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Drapery and Boot Shops (Hours of Trading on Week-days) (Wexford Borough) Order, 1944.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 9th day of October, 1944.

2. In this Order—

the expression " shop to which this Order applies " means any shop in which there is carried on the business of selling drapery or footwear, whether any other business is or is not carried on in the shop ;

the expression " appointed holiday " means any day being—

(a) 1st day of January,

(b) the 6th day of January,

(c) the 17th day of March,

(d) the 29th day of June,

(e) the 15th day of August,

(f) the 1st day of November, or

(g) the 8th day of December.

3. The borough of Wexford shall be a trading area for the purpose of this Order and the expression " the trading area " means in this Order the said borough.

4.—(1) It shall not be lawful for the proprietor of any shop to which this Order applies and which is situate in the trading area to open or keep open such shop for the serving of customers—

(a) on any week-day (other than Saturday), before the hour of 9 a.m. or after the hour of 6 p.m., or

(b) on any Saturday, before the hour of 9 a.m. or after the hour of 8 p.m.

(2) Notwithstanding anything contained in paragraph (1) of this Article, the proprietor of a shop to which this Order applies and which is situate in the trading area may lawfully keep open such shop for the serving of customers—

(a) on, when an appointed holiday falls on Saturday, the preceding Friday, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., or

(b) on any of the four week-days immediately preceding Christmas Day, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
