PUBLIC ASSISTANCE (COST) ORDER, 1944.

DEPARTMENT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC HEALTH.

I, FRANCIS CONSTANTINE WARD, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Local Government and Public Health in exercise of the powers conferred on the said Minister by Section 26 of the Public Assistance Act, 1939 , and by virtue of the Local Government and Public Health (Delegation of Ministerial Functions) (No. 2) Order, 1944, hereby order as follows that is to say :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Public Assistance (Cost) Order, 1944.

2. For the purpose of the Public Assistance Act, 1939 , the cost of public assistance shall be determined in accordance with the regulations set forth in the schedule to this Order.

SCHEDULE.

REGULATIONS FOR DETERMINING THE COST OF ASSISTANCE.

1.—(1) The cost of home assistance given in the form of money payment shall be taken to be the amount of such payment.

(2) The cost of home assistance given in the form of provisions, clothing or other necessaries shall be taken to be the moneys actually expended by the public assistance authority in the purchase of such necessaries.

2. The cost of the maintenance of a person on any day in a district institution and of any treatment given to such person on such day which is not mentioned in the table annexed to Regulation 6 shall be taken to be the average daily cost of each inmate of such institution determined in accordance with Article 91 of the Public Bodies Order, 1942, for the accounting period including such day, or, where it is necessary to make the determination before the end of such accounting period, for the preceding accounting period.

3. Where assistance is given by a public assistance authority to a person in a home, hospital or other institution not provided or maintained by such authority, the cost of such assistance shall be taken to be the moneys actually expended by such authority in the conveyance of such person to and from such institution and his maintenance, treatment or instruction therein.

4. The cost of the services of a dispensary medical officer shall be taken to be five shillings for every attendance on a person at the dispensary and ten shillings for every such attendance elsewhere.

5. The cost of the services of a dispensary midwife in connection with a confinement shall be taken to be one guinea.

6. The cost of any of the things specified in Column 1 of the following table, shall be taken to be the appropriate amount appearing in Column 2 of the said table :—

7. The cost of any assistance not mentioned in any of the foregoing regulations shall be taken to be the moneys actually expended by the public assistance authority in the giving of such assistance.
