STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS. 1944. No. 81.

CHILDREN'S ALLOWANCES ACT, 1944 (QUALIFYING DATES) REGULATIONS, 1944.

WHEREAS it is enacted (inter alia) by subsection (2) of section 2 of the Children's Allowances Act, 1944 (No. 2 of 1944), that, for the purposes of the Act, the qualifying date in relation to each payment period for a region shall be such date preceding the said payment period as may be prescribed :

AND WHEREAS it is enacted (inter alia) by subsection (1) of section 20 of the said Act that the Minister for Industry and Commerce may make regulations for prescribing any matter or thing referred to in the Act as prescribed or to be prescribed :

NOW, I, SEÁN F. LEMASS, Minister for Industry and Commerce, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by the Children's Allowances Act, 1944 (No. 2 of 1944), hereby make the following regulations :—

1 Short title.

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Children's Allowances Act, 1944 (Qualifying Dates) Regulations, 1944.

2 Interpretation.

2. In these Regulations, each of the expressions " Region No. 1", " Region No. 2", and " Region No. 3 " has the meaning given to it by the Children's Allowances Act, 1944 (Section 2) Order, 1944 ( S. R. & O. No. 80 of 1944 ).

3 First qualifying date

3. The qualifying date in relation to the first payment period for each region shall be the 1st day of May, 1944.

4 Subsequent qualifying dates.

4. The qualifying date in relation to each payment period (other than the first payment period) shall be—

(a) for Region No. 1, the immediately preceding 1st day of May or 1st day of November, whichever of those dates is nearer in point of time to the commencement of that payment period,

(b) for Region No. 2, the immediately preceding 1st day of June or 1st day of December, whichever of those dates is nearer in point of time to the commencement of that payment period,

(c) for Region No. 3, the immediately preceding 1st day of January or 1st day of July, whichever of those dates is nearer in point of time to the commencement of that payment period.
