STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS. 1940. No. 383.

CONTROL OF IMPORTS (QUOTA No. 40) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1940.

WHEREAS it is enacted by section 11 of the Control of Imports Act, 1934 (No. 12 of 1934), as adapted in consequence of the enactment of the Constitution, that the Government may at any time by order amend any quota order previously made under the said Act :

AND WHEREAS by section 2 of the Control of Imports (Amendment) Act, 1937 (No. 8 of 1937), as adapted as aforesaid, it is enacted that the Government may, in and by a quota order, do all or any of certain things :

AND WHEREAS on the 25th day of June, 1940, the Control of Imports (Quota No. 40) Order, 1940 ( S. R. & O. No. 201 of 1940 ), was made under section 3 of the said Control of Imports Act, 1934 :

NOW, the Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by the Control of Imports Acts, 1934 and 1937, as adapted in consequence of the enactment of the Constitution, and of every and any other power them in this behalf enabling, do hereby order as follows :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Control of Imports (Quota No. 40) (Amendment) Order, 1940.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. Part I of the Schedule to the Control of Imports (Quota No, 40) Order, 1940 ( S. R. & O. No. 201 of 1940 ), is hereby amended by the addition, at the end thereof, of a new paragraph as follows :—

" For the purposes of this Part of this Schedule, two or more towels joined together by the warp or weft yarns shall be deemed to be piece goods."

4. This Order shall come into operation on the 21st day of December, 1940.
