STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS. 1940. No. 241.

DAIRY PRODUCE ACT, 1924 (REGULATIONS UNDER PART III) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1940.

WHEREAS by virtue of sub-section (1) of Section 27 of the Dairy Produce Act, 1924 (No. 58 of 1924), the Minister for Agriculture is empowered by order to make regulations in regard to (amongst other matters) the method and manner in all respects of packing butter, including the materials and packages to be used for such packing :

WHEREAS in exercise of the powers conferred by (amongst provisions of the said Act) the said sub-section (1), the Dairy Produce Act, 1924 (Regulations under Part III) Order No. 1, 1925 (Statutory Rules and Orders, No. 51 of 1925), was made on the 6th day of October, 1925 :

AND WHEREAS the said Order has been amended, and it is expedient to amend it further in the manner hereinafter appearing :

NOW, THEREFORE, I, SÉAMAS O RIAIN, Minister for Agriculture, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sub-section (1) of Section 27 of the Dairy Produce Act, 1924 (No. 58 of 1924), and of every and any other power me in this behalf enabling, hereby by this Order make the following regulations, that is to say :—

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Dairy Produce Act, 1924 (Regulations under Part III) (Amendment) Order, 1940.

(2) The Dairy Produce Act, 1924 (Regulations under Part III) Orders, 1925 to 1939, and this Order may be cited together as the Dairy Produce Act, 1924 (Regulations under Part III) Orders, 1925 to 1940.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. The Dairy Produce Act, 1924 (Regulations under Part III) Order No. 1, 1925 (Statutory Rules and Orders, No. 51 of 1925), shall be construed and have effect as if there were inserted in the First Schedule thereto after the part of the said Schedule headed " III. Specification for Standard 56lb. Pyramid Butter Box." the following, that is to say :—

" III A. Alternative Specification for Standard 56lb. Pyramid Butter Box.

Timber.

Thoroughly well seasoned white wood, free from blue-wood, wane, feather, discoloration, in-bark, resin (except a slight trace thereof on one side of the timber) and large, loose or dead knots, and planed on both sides with edges smoothly sawn.

Any knot the superficial area of which exceeds the area of a circle having a diameter of 1¼ inches shall for the purpose of this provision be deemed a large knot.

Thickness of Material.

9/16 inch full.

Number of Pieces in Box.

Sides, ends, bottom and lid to be made up of three pieces each, tongued and grooved.

Break.

To be not less than 1½ inches (inclusive of the tongue or groove).

Nails.

Cement-coated steel wire nails of the under-mentioned numbers, lengths and gauge to be used :—

Number of nails attaching side to end of box, not less than 8 ; length of nail not less than 2¼ inches ; gauge 13.

Number of nails in bottom, 10 ; length of nail, 1½ inches, gauge 13.

Number of nails in lid, 10 ; length of nail, 1½ inches ; gauge 13.

Lid.

Lid to cover box exactly without projecting over sides or end.

Internal Dimensions.

Bottom, 11 inches x 11 inches ;

Top, 12 inches x 12 inches ;

Depth, 13 inches;

subject to a tolerance of 1/16 inch in any dimension to cover all allowances for errors in cutting the timber."
