STATUTORY RULES AND ORDERS. 1939. No. 308.

CONTROL OF IMPORTS (QUOTA No. 33, SEVENTH PERIOD) ORDER, 1939.

WHEREAS it is enacted by sub-section (2) of section 6 of the Control of Imports Act, 1934 (No. 12 of 1934), as adapted in consequence of the enactment of the Constitution, that so long as any particular quota order is in force the Government shall, during and not less than one month before the end of every quota period under such quota order, by order—

(a) appoint a period (beginning at the expiration of the said quota period) to be the next quota period under such quota order, and

(b) appoint a specified quantity of goods to which such quota order applies to be the quota for the purposes of the said Act in respect of the said next quota period :

AND WHEREAS, it is enacted by sub-section (3) of the said section 6, as so adapted, that whenever the Government by order made under the said section 6 appoints a quota, the Government may, if they so think fit, by the same order direct that a specified proportion (in the said Act referred to as a special quota) of the said quota shall consist of goods which are shown to the satisfaction of the Revenue Commissioners either (as shall be specified in such order)—

(a) to have been manufactured or produced in a specified country, or

(b) to have been consigned to the importer from a specified country, or

(c) to have been manufactured or produced in a specified country and consigned to the importer from that country:

AND WHEREAS by the Control of Imports (Quota No. 33. Sixth Period) Order, 1939 (Statutory Rules and Orders, No. 71 of 1939), the period beginning on the 1st day of May, 1939, and ending on the 31st day of October, 1939, was appointed to be the sixth quota period under the Control of Imports (Quota No. 33) Order, 1937 (Statutory Rules and Orders, No. 56 of 1937) :

NOW, the Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by sub-sections (2) and (3) of section 6 of the Control of Imports Act, 1934 (No. 12 of 1934), as adapted in consequence of the enactment of the Constitution, and of every and any other power them in this behalf enabling, do hereby order as follows:—

1. This Order may be cited as the Control of Imports (Quota No. 33, Seventh Period) Order, 1939.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1937 (No. 38 of 1937), applies to this Order.

3. The period beginning on the 1st day of November, 1939, and ending on the 30th day of April, 1940, is hereby appointed to be the seventh quota period under the Control of Imports (Quota No. 33) Order, 1937 (which relates to certain woven tissues of wool or worsted).

4. Five hundred and fifty thousand square yards of the articles to which the Control of Imports (Quota No. 33) Order, 1937, applies shall be the quota in respect of the said seventh quota period.

5. Of the quota in respect of the said seventh quota period, five hundred and forty thousand square yards shall be articles to which the Control of Imports (Quota No. 33) Order, 1937, applies and which are shown to the satisfaction of the Revenue Commissioners to have been manufactured either in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or in the Dominion of Canada.
