PUBLIC SERVICE VEHICLES (LICENCES AND VEHICLE PLATES) ORDER, 1937.

DEPARTMENT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC HEALTH.

ROAD TRAFFIC ACT, 1933 .

The Minister for Local Government and Public Health in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Sections 3 , 84 , 95 and 96 of the Road Traffic Act, 1933 , in relation to Public Service Vehicle Licences and Vehicle Plates hereby orders and prescribes as follows that is to say :—

1. This Order may be cited as the Public Service Vehicles (Licences and Vehicle Plates) Order, 1937.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1923 , applies to the interpretation of this Order in the same manner in which it applies to the interpretation of an Act of the Oireachtas.

3. A public service vehicle licence shall,

(a) in respect of a large public service vehicle or in respect of a small public service vehicle not limited to use as a private hire vehicle, be in the form set out in part I of the first schedule to this Order ; and

(b) in respect of a small public service vehicle limited to use as a private hire vehicle, be in the form set out in part II of the first schedule to this Order.

4. Every vehicle plate shall be of the pattern and bear the words set out in the second schedule to this Order and have engraved thereon the serial number of the public service vehicle licence issued in respect of the vehicle on which the vehicle plate is to be carried.

5. The vehicle plate shall be securely affixed to a large public service vehicle, by means of metal bolts, screws or rivets, on the outside of the waist panel on the left or near side at a distance from the entrance to the vehicle not exceeding two feet and in such a position and manner that the view of the front of the plate from the left or near side of the vehicle is not obscured.

6. Subject to the provisions of the next following article the vehicle plate shall be securely affixed to a small public service vehicle, by means of metal bolts, screws or rivets, on the outside of the rear panel or immediately above the rear identification plate and in such a position and manner that the view of the front of the plate from the rear of the vehicle is not obscured.

7. In the case of a small public service vehicle which is limited to use as a private hire vehicle, the vehicle plate may be affixed, by means of metal bolts, screws or rivets, to the inside of the vehicle in such a position and manner that the front of the plate is clearly visible by daylight when the vehicle is stationary to a person wishing to inspect the plate without entering the vehicle.

This licence does not permit the vehicle to be used as a street service vehicle in any fare bye-law area.
