THE MILK AND DAIRIES (FEES FOR BACTERIOLOGICAL EXAMINATION) REGULATIONS, 1936.

The Minister for Local Government and Public Health in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Section 50 of the Milk and Dairies Act, 1935 , hereby makes the following regulations, that is to say:—

1. These regulations may be cited as the Milk and Dairies (Fees for Bacteriological Examination) Regulations, 1936.

2. The Interpretation Act, 1923 , shall apply for the purpose of the interpretation of these regulations in the same manner in which it applies for the purpose of the interpretation of an Act of the Oireachtas.

3. The prescribed fee for the making of an examination and test of a sample of milk to determine for any of the purposes of the Milk and Dairies Act, 1935 , the number of bacteria per unit volume contained in such sample shall be seven shillings and sixpence.

4. The prescribed fee for the making of an examination and test of a sample of milk to determine for any of the purposes of the said Act the nature of any micro-organisms or antibodies to micro-organisms contained in such sample shall be ascertained in accordance with the following table, that is to say:—

TABLE OF FEES.

(1) For each cultural examination—ten shillings.

(A cultural examination means and includes the cultural and microscopic examinations necessary to determine whether any one named pathogenic organism—e.g., Haemolytic Streptococcus or Diphtheria bacillus—is present, or whether pathogenic organisms of any one named group of such organisms—e.g., Enteric bacillus—is present. It does not include animal inoculation).

(2) For each serological examination—five shillings.

(A serological examination means the testing of the whey of milk in respect of its power of agglutinating organisms—e.g., Bacillus typhosus orBacillus abortus).

(3) For each biological examination

(a) if two animals are used—one pound ten shillings;

(b) if one animal only is used—one pound.

(A biological examination includes the centrifuging of the sample, treatment of the deposit, inoculation of one or more guinea pigs and, after the necessary period, post mortem investigation, and also microscopic investigation of material from lesions to detect bacilli of any particular kind).

(4) For each microscopic examination—five shillings.

(A microscopic examination includes the centrifuging of the sample and the preparation and microscopic examination of a stained film of the milk).
