BY-LAW No. 402No. 8 or LIMERICK DISTRICT

RIVER SHANNON

I, FIONÁN O LOÍNGSIGH, Minister for Lands and Fisheries, by virtue and in exercise of the powers vested in me by the Fisheries Act, 1925 , and of every other power enabling me in this behalf, do MAKE AND ORDAIN THE FOLLOWING BY-LAW :—

(1) It is prohibited to use any net for catching fish or any net capable of catching fish in the portion of the River Shannon situated between the sluices in or adjacent to the townlands of Ardcloony in the County of Clare and Birdhill in the County of Tipperary and the bridge known as O'Brien's Bridge between the townlands of O'Brien's Bridge in the County of Clare and Montpelier in the County of Limerick, or in any tributary entering the said portion of the river.

(2) It is prohibited to put, leave or have in possession any such net in or on or near the banks of the said waters.

(3) This By-law shall not apply to the use of a landing net as auxiliary to lawful fishing with rod and line, nor to any person catching or attempting to catch fish for the purpose of artificial propagation or for scientific purposes in accordance with the provisions of the Fisheries Acts.

(4) Any person offending against this By-law shall forfeit and pay for each offence a sum not exceeding Five Pounds, and any net used or found contrary thereto shall be forfeited.

(5) The Interpretation Act, 1923 , applies to the interpretation of this By-law in like manner as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of the Oireachtas.

(6) This By-law may be cited for all purposes as the Limerick District By-law, No. 402, 1930.

(7) This By-law shall come into force on the 10th day of February, 1930.
