IMPORTATION OF CARCASES (PROHIBITION) (AMENDMENT) ORDER OF 1927.

The Department of Agriculture and Technical Instruction, by virtue and in exercise of the powers vested in them under the Agriculture and Technical Instruction (Ireland) Act, 1899, the Diseases of Animals Acts, 1894 to 1914, and of every other power enabling them in this behalf, do, with the concurrence of the Minister for Lands and Agriculture, hereby order as follows:—

1. The following Article shall be substituted for Article 2 of the Importation of Carcases (Prohibition) Order of 1926:—

"Bacon and Ham to be accompanied by Statements as to Curing.
|
| |
"2.—(1) Every side or piece of bacon or ham landed under the provisions of Article 1 of this Order shall be marked with a label containing—
|
| |
( a ) A statement signed and dated by a responsible Officer of the Government Of the country in which the bacon or ham has been cured , describing fully the process of curing to which it has been subjected, in such a way as to show that the process was one of those mentioned in Article 1 hereof.

( b ) The name of the factory where the process of curing has been carried out, and of the locality and country in which it is situated.
|
| |
A similar label shall be affixed securely to the outside of the wrapping, crate, box, or other container enclosing each separate parcel of bacon or ham.
|
| |
"(2) In the case of bacon or ham cured in and brought from the Netherlands, or any country which may from time to time be specified for the purposes of this Order by the Department of Agriculture and Technical Instruction (hereinafter called the Department), it shall be sufficient compliance (except as herein provided) with the requirements of paragraph (1) of this Article if every side or piece of such bacon or ham is stamped or branded with an official stamp or brand of a pattern prescribed by regulations of the Government of such country, and approved by the Department

Provided that the Department shall not approve an official stamp or brand under this Article unless it included the official registered number or the name or location of the factory in which the bacon or ham was cured, and unless the Government of such country has given them a formal undertaking to the effect that the stamp or brand will be affixed only to bacon or ham which has been cured by one of the processes mentioned in Article 1 hereof and has been cured in a factory which is under the continuous supervision of a Veterinary Inspector or other responsible officer of the Government of the country.

"(3) The Department may, at any time, withdraw any approval given by them of any stamp or brand, and if they do so, the stamping or branding with such stamp or brand shall cease to be deemed to be a compliance with the requirements of paragraph (1) of this Article.

"(4) Nothing in paragraph (2) hereof shall exempt any bacon or ham from the provision of paragraph (1) hereof requiring a label to be affixed securely to the outside of the wrapping, crate, box, or other container enclosing each separate parcel of bacon or ham.

Provided that, in cases to which the said paragraph (2) applies, the label to be so affixed shall only be required to bear a replica of the official stamp or brand referred to in paragraph (2).

"(5) The landing of any side or piece of bacon or ham without having such labels as are hereby required, or which is not stamped or branded in the manner hereby prescribed, shall be deemed to be the landing of a carcase or part thereof which is prohibited by this Order."

2 Commencement.
|
2. This Order shall come into operation on the first day of June nineteen hundred and twenty-seven.

3 Short Title and Construction.
|
3. This Order may be cited as the Importation of Carcases (Prohibition) (Amendment) Order of 1927.
