ROAD VEHICLES (CALCULATION OF HORSE-POWER) REGULATIONS, 1922. DATED DECEMBER 30TH, 1922.

To the Council of each administrative County;

To the Council of each County Borough;

And to all others whom it may concern:

I, the Minister of Local Government, under the powers conferred on me by Section 13 of the Finance Act, 1920, as adapted by the Adaptation of Enactments Act, 1922 , and in exercise of all other powers in this behalf enabling me, do hereby order and direct, without prejudice, to any further exercise of the said powers, as follows, that is to say:—

1. Sub-regulations (1) and (2) of Regulation 39 of the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations, 1921, are hereby revoked, and the following sub-regulations shall be inserted in place thereof in the said Regulations, which shall be read and construed as if they were therein substituted for the said sub-regulations (l) and (2) of Regulation 39, hereby revoked:—

"39. (1) For the purposes of the Finance Act, 1920, the horse-power of any mechanically propelled vehicle, deriving its motive power wholly from an internal combustion engine worked by a cylinder or cylinders, shall be taken to be equal to the total volume of the cylinder or cylinders measured in cubic centimetres, divided by the numeral 160.

(2) The volume of any cylinder of an internal combustion engine shall be determined by multiplying the square of the internal diameter of such cylinder by the length of the stroke of the piston and the numeral 0·7854."

2. Sub-regulation (5) of the Roads Vehicles (Regulation and Licensing) Regulations, 1921, shall be amended by the insertion of the words "centimetres and" after the words "fractions of" where they first occur in the said sub-regulation, and the said Regulations shall be read and construed accordingly.

3. These Regulations may be cited as the Road Vehicles (Calculation of Horse-power) Regulations, 1922, and shall come into force on the First day of January, 1923.
