S.I. No. 168/2024 - Maritime Boundaries (County of Sligo) Order 2024


Notice of the making of this Statutory Instrument was published in

“Iris Oifigiúil” of 26th April, 2024.

WHEREAS Tailte Éireann has found that certain land adjoining the county of Sligo has been reclaimed from the sea;

AND WHEREAS the present acknowledged or reputed boundaries of the county of Sligo at Sligo Harbour have been ascertained, defined, and marked out by Tailte Éireann under section 3 of the Boundary Survey (Ireland) Act 1854 ;

AND WHEREAS the maritime boundaries of the said county’s constituent denominations of land, namely, barony, parish, townland and electoral division have been ascertained, defined, and marked out under the said section 3;

AND WHEREAS a report, prepared and made out by Tailte Éireann, accompanied by a plan, has been submitted to the Government under section 11 of the said Act;

NOW THEREFORE, the Government, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by sections 11 and 12 of the said Act and section 4 of the Boundary Survey (Ireland) Act 1859 , as adapted by or under subsequent enactments, and having considered the report and plan so submitted, hereby order as follows:

1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Maritime Boundaries (County of Sligo) Order 2024.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on the 8th day of May 2024.

2. In this Order -

“the Plan” means the ordnance plan referred to and submitted with the Report;

“present”, in relation to a boundary, means existing immediately before the coming into operation of this Order;

“the Report” means the report of Tailte Éireann, relating to the maritime boundaries of the county of Sligo at Sligo Harbour and of its constituent denominations of land, namely, barony, parish, townland and electoral division, dated the 12th day of September 2023, and prepared, made out and submitted to the Government in accordance with section 11 of the Boundary Survey (Ireland) Act 1854 .

3. It is hereby directed that for all public purposes the boundary of the county of Sligo at Sligo Harbour shall be deemed and taken to be the present boundary line as altered by the adoption of each of the changes proposed by Tailte Éireann which are marked out and described in the first to fourteenth paragraphs of the Report, headed sections A to H and J to O, and delineated in blue on the Plan.

4. It is hereby directed that for all public purposes the boundary of the barony of Carbury in the county of Sligo shall be deemed and taken to be the present boundary line as altered by the adoption of each of the changes proposed by Tailte Éireann which are marked out and described in the fifteenth paragraph of the Report, headed “Barony of Carbury”, and delineated in blue on the Plan.

5. It is hereby directed that for all public purposes the boundary of the electoral division of Sligo North in the county of Sligo shall be deemed and taken to be the present boundary line as altered by the adoption of each of the changes proposed by Tailte Éireann which are marked out and described in the sixteenth paragraph of the Report, headed “Electoral Divisions of Sligo North”, and delineated in blue on the Plan.

6. It is hereby directed that for all public purposes the boundary of the electoral division of Sligo West in the county of Sligo shall be deemed and taken to be the present boundary line as altered by the adoption of each of the changes proposed by Tailte Éireann which are marked out and described in the seventeenth paragraph of the Report, headed “Electoral Divisions of Sligo West”, and delineated in blue on the Plan.

7. It is hereby directed that for all public purposes the boundary of the electoral division of Knockaree in the county of Sligo shall be deemed and taken to be the present boundary line as altered by the adoption of each of the changes proposed by Tailte Éireann which are marked out and described in the eighteenth paragraph of the Report, headed “Electoral Divisions of Knockaree (New boundary of Knockaree)”, and delineated in blue on the Plan.

8. It is hereby directed that for all public purposes the boundary of the parish of Calry in the county of Sligo shall be deemed and taken to be the present boundary line as altered by the adoption of each of the changes proposed by Tailte Éireann which are marked out and described in the nineteenth paragraph of the Report, headed “Parish of Calry”, and delineated in blue on the Plan.

9. It is hereby directed that for all public purposes the boundary of the parish of St. Johns in the county of Sligo shall be deemed and taken to be the present boundary line as altered by the adoption of each of the changes proposed by Tailte Éireann which are marked out and described in the twentieth paragraph of the Report, headed “Parish of St Johns”, and delineated in blue on the Plan.

10. It is hereby directed that for all public purposes the boundary of the townland of Finisklin in the county of Sligo shall be deemed and taken to be the present boundary line as altered by the adoption of each of the changes proposed by Tailte Éireann which are marked out and described in the twenty-first paragraph of the Report, headed “Townland of Finisklin”, and delineated in blue on the Plan.

11. It is hereby directed that for all public purposes the boundary of the townland of Part of Finisklin in the county of Sligo shall be deemed and taken to be the present boundary line as altered by the adoption of each of the changes proposed by Tailte Éireann which are marked out and described in the twenty-second paragraph of the Report, headed “Townland of Part of Finisklin”, and delineated in blue on the Plan.

12. It is hereby directed that for all public purposes the boundary of the townland of Rathquarter in the county of Sligo shall be deemed and taken to be the present boundary line as altered by the adoption of each of the changes proposed by Tailte Éireann which are marked out and described in the twenty-third paragraph of the Report, headed “Townland of Rathquarter”, and delineated in blue on the Plan.

13. It is hereby directed that for all public purposes the boundary of the townland of Cartron in the county of Sligo shall be deemed and taken to be the present boundary line as altered by the adoption of each of the changes proposed by Tailte Éireann which are marked out and described in the twenty-fourth paragraph of the Report, headed “Townland of Cartron”, and delineated in blue on the Plan.

14. It is hereby directed that for all public purposes the boundary of the townland of Rathedmond in the county of Sligo shall be deemed and taken to be the present boundary line as altered by the adoption of each of the changes proposed by Tailte Éireann which are marked out and described in the twenty-fifth paragraph of the Report, headed “Townland of Rathedmond”, and delineated in blue on the Plan.

15. This Order together with the Report and Plan shall remain on record in the Office of the Secretary General to the Government and shall be exhibited to any person or persons who may desire to inspect the same, without fee or reward.
